Where's the Defender wave gone?

All good fun, but I was serious if you want to maintain the tradition, keep waving if you / we stop, it will finally end.

I don't have the time to to read all the posts over the past 70 Pages so this may not be a new idea. But here is my Proposal:

Why don't we all stop bitching(I mean this in a nice way) and get the AULRO Chairman (if he or she exists) to write a letter welcoming new Puma owners to the road, and explain that they need not be surprised; baffled or offended if other REAL Landy drivers start waving at then.

And that they are now part of a community where it is considered polite to wave back when greeted, the us side for then in return is no REAL Landy driver would ever drive past (even a Puma) if stuck or broken down on the side of the road.

And we can all give a pile to the salesmen at our local dealer - I will take responsibility for the Sydney Northern Beaches Dealership. Who knows the salesmen may even find it a sales tool to sell more Defenders for you REAL owners to buy at rock bottom used values in one years time :)

I don't think new owners need to be told to wave.....it should be evident when they spend a day or two behind the wheel of their "new" Defender that we wave to each other.

Then when they see someone in a flat sided (series 1) version of their "new" car waving at you, you might go home and look up what that thing was.....and then discover the heritage that the marque has.

Or not.....and they just sell it after the warranty runs out for the next cool thing.

This is not directed at anyone in particular btw.....I'm passionate about Land Rovers and I love the "wave".

I worked it out early....I bought my first Land Rover before I even had my license, a 1978 series 3 "Game". Paid too much and quickly learnt how to fix it.
I remember the second day I drove it, with my mother in the passenger seat, I was pulling out of a petrol station in Balwyn and a series 3 ex mil LWB went past us and waved. My mother said "people used to wave at your Father and I in the MG, it must be a thing for Land Rovers as well".

I've been waving ever since......and yes I'll pull over to help a Puma out.....if it's out of warranty.

Enough of this Puma/TDCi bashing.

Last night in Brisbane CBD - outside Roma Street station I received a cheery reciprical wave from a grey Puma/TDCi 90 we were in our Grey Storm/TD5 110.

They didn't really stand a chance as both my wife and I gave hearty over enthusiastic waves. It was a tricky wave angle though as they we were at adjacent sets of lights and they were a couple of vehicle back. The driver and passenger in the Puma/TDCi both appeared to grin from ear to ear.

When I started this thread it was because I noticed that a lot of the newer Pumas don't wave. It was started tongue in cheek and very light hearted.

I'm really passionate about my car. I wasn't before I bought it. I just always wanted one and I was lucky enough to be able to get it. Its really grown on me. I love it now. You sort of just get it, or you don't.

And thats the point guys, Its ok to just buy one cause its trendy this week. If i win lotto Saturday I'll have an Aston Monday morning!!!

People. Never loose sight of the fact its just a car. A bit of metal. Its not worth slagging each other off over.

Point taken your are correct if you can't figure it out by the 3rd day you are either stupid or a dick head. Maybe both. But that is a the person not the cars fault :)

Amusingly last year when I went for my first test drive I got two waves. Came home and told my wife who laughed and thought I was dreaming. At that point I didn't know about them.

Now she endures my constant waves ( and I drive a puma) and has even waved herself!
