    Hahaha LouisW relax.

My post meant there are a lot of Hipsters around gold coast and far northern NSW coastal towns that are driving new defenders. They have nearly no where near the passion for defenders or LRs that you put into your response that got deleted. They only drive them because they think the car suits their cool image. These particular ones will probably never go on a dirt road and will probably never run over anything higher than the curb.

I have seen plenty of pumas wave but not around where i live. I passed 4 yesterday not one waved back. I pulled up next to the 5th one at the lights at Burleigh Heads and there was a black 90 that looked like it had come off the show room floor stopped next to me. They had their window down and the passenger said to the driver "oh cool another one like yours" and the driver said "Nah thats an old one" in a derogatory manner while looking at me like he was heaps better than me.

Anyway LouisW thanks for the compliment.

    Cheers
    Michael.

Ahh the Red Wine whine Been there before.
My Defender still isn't in the road yet , but I wave anyway. I usually get a wave back when I'm on my bike , less from the car ( maybe tinted windows don't help?)
Rarely a wave from a Defender when I was in the D2.
I like the new bonnet just as much as the older style.
Risking a fight.....spare wheels belong on Series Bonnets not Defenders or Pumas

Sorry Mate I over reacted....too...sorry.... two bottles of red wine later -

However I am one of those who wave - my first landy was a 2 door LWB 3 series back in 1982 and at the age of 15 (and drove it with my farther's concert on public roads in South Africa) - my second was a 3.9 V8 Auto 90 used it in the african bush from 2001 to 2007 - the next will be a 2015 90 Pretender used on the road on the Northern beaches of Sydney.

So I am a bit sensitive to the New hipster thing )) Peace Brother!

I'm obviously a Puma driver myself, but also a long time Defender owner (as many Puma drivers are), so I'll back the corner of most Puma drivers who actually do wave. As per my earlier post there are however a growing number of "wannabees" buying Defenders and they do actually seem to require a bit of "attitude adjustment"...

The funniest thing is actually talking to these people - the ones buying Defenders because they're cool and because it supports their "Lumbersexual" image ( Google that... )

Salesmen don't really seem to know what they're talking about regarding Defenders in any case and feed these gullible saps the biggest load of nonsense just to make the sale... After 20 years of driving Defenders I'm still learning loads about them and I still have a way to go, but apparently 2 visits to a Land Rover showroom makes these guys experts with enough knowledge to argue with you that features that's been on Defenders since 1983 is "Limited Edition" specific to their cars...

I personally don't mind, because many of them will be up for sale in a year's time and a real enthusiast would be able to buy them!

    Cheers,

    Lou

Hey Strangy i actually prefer the look of the puma bonnet.

It just seems on the Gold Coast very few puma drivers wave. As im sure everyone is aware the goldy has a lot of people who are so obsessed with image. As time goes on im noticing a lot more of these types of people driving defenders on the Gold Coast.

From my experience a defender is a 4x4 that can be driven on the road where as nearly all new 4x4s from other manufacturers are more cars that can be used as a 4x4. Im talking about straight off the show room floor unmodified.

    Cheers

I would agree that there are a hell of a lot of new Defenders (puma) in the inner city, especially inner east of Melbourne. In fact I see more Defenders in these areas than I do out where I live, where I see basically none. They've all got more brains and are driving V8 Cruiser utes.

I travel into the city every other week and I wave at all Defenders, Series, 110's etc and these days I find I rarely get a wave back. I put it down to the hipster, as was mentioned above, using it for their image rather than what it was intended for.

Inner city Hipster/Greens want to look like they've been off dropping donated food and supplies to the poor homeless refugee's of whatever land, when they not sitting in there favourite cafe sipping a decaffeinated vegan chai latte using the free wifi service. Driving a Toyota or Patrol for the same reason would surely make them look more redneck than bleeding heart.

The way I see it......at least there will be a heap of Pumas available on the secondhand market when the time comes for me to recycle one.
    Cheers

The seeking a landy to wave at

Due to the RangeRS I ordered being put in quariteen by Land Rover HQ, the dealer now does not have the authority to hand over the keys to me - and the continual delay with the defender 90 I ordered .

My wife yeasterday picked up a loan car- brand new Black with Silver roof 90.

her opening statement was as she got home " Gosh you right - driving a Landy is fabulous for your ego".

She has had several convertibles over the years including a 2nd hand Ferrari a ex boyfriend bought her 12 years ago. About the time she met me when the only car I had was a second hand 90. He's got the Ferrari back and I go the girl

Her observation yesterday was that guys now look at her (with admiration) even more so than ever before. - Men admire a Girl in a Pretender and wave regardless.

Today I drove it into the city looking out for a landy to wave at, No Luck! but driving it does give you a very special feeling - you either get it or you don't.

Mick, keep waiving at "us" this is the only way to educate "us" - I waved at a 110 a few days ago and he waved back - I was driving a Nissan. And not all Pretenders are Vegan Greenies, some of us are meat eating; bored; middle aged businessmen; that prefer wasting time on this site vs reality TV or Facebook - Yet we love the Pretender Defender So don't bank on it that mine will be for sale next year. - If however you do catch me trying to sell it. I commit to you personally that I will sell it $7k below market value to you - I will post photos soon so you will know what to look our for

Oi! I had no passion for LRs when I bought mine 20mths ago. And bought it rather than an addition to the long line of prior hiluxes because I couldn't bear what a current model hilux would do to my image!
(Oh and because much moreso than a new hilux I could drive a defender into the malaysian jungles without having to undertake a modification program)

There has to be an interesting difference between people who own a puma after a bunch of older models - as compared to a bloke who's first LR is a Puma.

    Something like:
    - the former had to be persuaded that newer is not to be despised, and the feeling of superiority over older defender model owners has to grow over time
    - the latter feel instantly superior.

(Of course I am in the latter category - and wave even to the former).
