Took me 750km driving in my shiny new truck to see a Defender and get my first wave, but finally got 2 in the space of 2 hours today.

Spent the rest of the day grinning like an idiot as a result. Ok make that grinning like more of an idiot than usual!

Funny you should say that Mr Rover

    Ummm, no

Don't believe I was over that way at that time of the year.
I waved at a similar unit, could have been an Oka around Wyalla/Port Augusta last week.
Although four weeks or so ago, I waved at one just outside of Melb on the Hume Hwy, but I don't think the driver saw me. Also waved at what looked like a 6x6 thingy, (very tidy looking unit) about two months ago a bit further up the Hwy on my way to Albury.

I wave at most of these types of rigs when I can. I feel like they're my big brothers

Got my first wave today. Feel like I'm part of the club now.

Cheers to the guy driving the white dual cab in Thornlie this afternoon if your on here. I was in the new Keswick wagon.

We live in bronte and drive a black 110 - everybody waves - the exceptions are very rare

Mate, I've just given you a wave due to also owning a Keswick green wagon, despite the fact I'm on the other side of the country and you won't see it

I picked up my defer in Cairns a few weeks back and drove it back to the a Hunter Valley over three days. I passed a couple defer owners on the road between Charters Towers and Roma that didn't do 'the wave' but I wasn't too fussed.

On the 2700km trip I passed around 9 defers and all but 2 waved.

That said, when you do pass other owners and they give an enthusiastic wave it is a nice feeling. I'd feel pretty confident that if I ever broke down on the side of the road a passing defer driver would stop and lend a hand.

    Talking

Apparently I need to upgrade my waving technique.

A few weekends ago while driving for the first time at GVM and up an (admittedly small) hill in Ashfield, the best I could muster was a 2 finger V with my hand still on the steering wheel.

To my horror I got back a shoulder and arm out the window wave!

As a feather weight opening the window isn't a necessity for my comfort, but I was certainly outclassed on this occasion.

Mental note to self: try harder next time

Ps: For the avoidance of doubt, first time at GVM, not first time on a hill

At GVM means at at gross vehicle mass, or in simple terms take a stock 110 and add a tonne or so of bricks to the loadspace.
