Cool when giving the birdie... people don't wave back

I personally do not have any problems with waving and being waved at.. However I have found there are a few rules..
#1.. If you give the other car the birdie, they tend to not wave back...
#2.. if your defender is hot pink people may get the wrong idea..
#3.. There is a new wave of people driving land rovers.. good for Land Rover.. good for increased parts availability.. the trend is that driving a defender on grass at the local football field is considered "extreme" off road..

p.s. this is not entirely a serious post...

Did anyone wave at my 110 while it was on the back of a tilt tray from Stanthorpe to gold Coast?

They waved at my missus' 110 on the car trailer going to Perth , either that or they were waving to me in the 130 towing it .
In fact they all waved ...except the ones in new range rovers of course .

That poses an interesting question: are we waving at the drivers of Defenders or waving at the Defenders themselves.

For the record I would have waved at a Defender on the back of a tilt tray...

That is a really interesting question. I wave more enthusiastically if it's a really nice Defender. So I guess I am waving at the Defender and not the driver. But if the driver doesn't wave back I get grumpy. So I don't know.

There's an old guy up here with a series 1 who refuses to wave at me. I've tried honking to. I'm driving a Puma. Is there Defender snobberyI really hope not. Also a lawn mowing buisness guy with a 130. No waving eitherObviously wont be getting him to mow my lawn anytime soon

But I wont wave to Disco's or Range Rovers so I guess that's being a snob. But I'm sure 90% of them couldnt care less.

IMHO the title of this thread is at best misguided , the land rover wave has been around long before Defenders were even thought of . I love my defender , and I wave to all Land rovers , but I see the TDI as the last of an era .

Just like RoboDouche, I too get grumpy when I wave enthusiastically at another Defender / Series driver only to get ignored.

But then there is the other side of the coin... A few times I have noticed too late someone waving at me only to have passed them by before I could react. Ooops. Then I get grumpy at myself.

Having owned the Defender for less than a year, I am still coming to terms with the driving style. By that I mean that the Defender is the type of car that I physically have to drive. Not like the mindless style of driving I was doing in the Citroens I owned before. I was so bored of driving in the Citroens, I had time to notice everything. Now, I enjoy the physical driving and have less time to notice who is driving what around me... Does that make any sense? No? Hmmm. Time to buy another Citroen. Kidding.

In addition, I have to admit that whilst driving Citroens, I did get some waves from other Citroen drivers. These were getting few and far between towards the end.

To sum up, I regard any wave as pretty cool, and even better if I manage to return the wave. That adds a smile to my face for the next few kilometres to driving. And that cannot be a bad thing, although I'm sure other drivers seeing me sitting high and mighty with a smile may think I'm a tad weird... I love my Defender!

Maybe he's so old he can no longer see or hear the waves/honks

I went down to Cooma a couple of months ago and saw an old bloke in a series vehicle idling along the main drag with several bales of hay in the back. I gave him a little wave and he stuck his whole arm out the window in vigorous return.

I was surprised, and very chuffed.
