    Hi Chook73,

You said it took you quite a while to get it right... Could you possibly elaborate please?

You also wrote that you run without the tune a lot of the time? I tried to find some of the treads about the tunes not being suitable for Australian conditions, but I didn't manage to find any (a LOT of threads about mapping and tuning Td5's and Pumas).

    Cheers,

    Hi Lou,

The first tune blew a lot of Black smoke under loads such as a long hill climb(ie over Fueling) and then the second the boost was extremely low maxing out at about 9psi. The third tune lacked power around the 2200rpm mark from memory.

I now run a MAP which shuts off the EGR but keeps the standard tune. I am not saying that the maps are no good, they just didn't suit me and my driving style. Pete has been more than accommodating the whole way and has been more than happy to keep adjusting the tune. I now run a hard MAP if I go serious 4wd driving the rest of the time I just run the EGR off MAP as I find that is all I need.

As for threads I will go back and have a search but I know Drover and I were discussing the maps in detail in a couple of threads a few months back.

    Cheers
    Iain

Bruce Davis Performance tunes are the go for Pumas. They are based on the Alive tunes, but are modified for Australian conditions. You can get a console from Bruce which allows for the original map to be put back if required (takes a matter of minutes). Then the remap can be reinstalled the same way.....

Mine (for 2.4) was about $900.00 with the console.

Unfortunately the 2.2 is a different beast. The ATRIC does not work on this version of the ECU at the moment, but, apparently work is ongoing.

Just spoke to Bruce Davis (very friendly to talk to) and he told me about $1000.00 for an upgrade of the ECU and a day or so to do the job if I am down his way on holidays, he will squeeze me in ,I just have to give him as much notice as I can (only fair) otherwise he is booked out for 2 weeks at a time. Bruce informed me that there is about a,
    20% increase in power, 90kw -108kw
    22% increase in torque, 360nm-440nm
IMHO, that would make it a lot more pleasurable when towing the camper, overtaking manoeuvres, etc. etc etc.
BTW, he was adamant that the 2.2 is a LandRover motor and NOT a Puma as Puma is a Ford design and the 2.2 is not a Ford.
    Cheers Ian

I wouldn't spend $1000 to get such a small increase in power where you can get 135kw with the 2.4 engine.

Bell auto will give same figures for both 2.4 and 2.2 however ecu must be sent over to them which is the only thing stopping me getting one....FWIW the 2.2 feels like it goes better than the 2.4 but that is not represented on paper...
