Weird how much they vary considering that Shannons , and AAMI are all owned by the Suncorp insurance group! O_O

It's very interesting that so many people have said 'Shannons'. I'm a rating one driver and hadn't had a claim in the last ten years when I applied with Shannon's on line. It would not except my claim and said to ring a consultant. It turned out that Shannon's would not insure me as the accessories total more than 50% of the market value.
Anybody had dealings with TCIS?
Nino.

since we are all flopping it out...
2013 90, AAMI, $680/yr agreed value $47K, excess $600.
Check out your excesses.... Although from what I've seen and could work out, from memory if you lift the excess from 500 to 1000 you will only save money IF YOU DON"T CLAIM in the first 5 yrs of the policy (I think that's what I figured out) SOoooooo if you plan on claiming keep your excesses low. If you're like me and you NEVER plan on claiming then lift the excess some to save a bit of cash each year. I didn't get too excited when I lifted it, the MRS was restraining me.... I wanted to lift it to $1000 and how much damage to you really have to do to rack up $1000! not very much imo.
That is a very valid point these days as well. Also where you live, if you lock the old girl up, how many times you've had an at fault claim.... traffic infringements...
The list goes on and on. Mainly I think they just look for excuses to overcharge. That's why my series 3 is only on "bomb" insurance.
Shannon's here also.. they were the only company that would insure most of my accessories including fridge etc..
Insured for agreed value of $55,000 I pay $1100 a year. Also insured for all off road including 4WD drive parks - as long as I am not competing in an event it is covered. I'm happy enough with that as I was paying a very similar amount but only covered for $35,000 and no off road work with allianze.
Have to look around again soon. 1995 Defender, struggled to get the agreed value up to $11K with Shannons and no salvage rights. Just over $700 last year for low Km usage.
At the same time, insurance on a current $45K vehicle was $750 with RACV

SubscriberOne thing I look at when I choose an insurance company is how the allow their repairs to be carried out. For example I had an experience with AAMI where they would not let the repairer I chose fix the car as the repairer wanted to fix, they forced them to use many use parts. The repair experience was not very good.
I'm now with RACV and just had a brand new Defender T Boned. RACV were pretty good, allowing all new panels . The only area they cheaped out on was repainting a rim instead of replacing it.
There are only three Land rover authorised repairers in Melbourne, 2 are crap, and the only good one is where I took the new Defender. I asked the manager there who they have the least hassle with. He said Shannons... So I've started switching over to them.
(Having said that RACV were excellent with handling the claim, and supplying a rental car.)
RACV $1184 for Top level Comprehensive on a MY13 110 Limited Edition $59,900 agreed value.
