Well I have an MY15 110 on the water, my first 4wd owned.
It's tricked out, it will be used for touring, pampered and not thrashed.
I want 20 years out of it, and when I die dig a pit and shove me in it with a cold carton.![]()
With the poor old Defender being phased out.How many people buying a MY 15 will trick it up a bit more then usual and buy it for sentimental reasons as opposed to a work/touring car ?.
I have owned a few over the years and couldn't help myself I have ordered one and yes gone foe a few cosmetic options I have never bothered with before.
I will look after it a bit better then the others but hopefully still use it off road.
Wonder what the last Defender model built will be worth in X years ?
Cheers
Tony

By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
apologies to Socrates
Clancy MY15 110 Defender
Clancy's gone to Queensland Rovering, and we don't know where he are
And of course there will be a MY16!

Andyg
The dealer I bought mine from was adamant MY15 the last and apparently Land Rover want to stop production as soon as they can.
Which is a shame really. I like them desire all the quirks and issues.
Tony
Someone will jump in with better info,
But,
If I can get a My15 in July 14, why couldn't you get a my16 in July 15 or until prod run ends in dec 15
Just my idle thought for the day.

But you raised an interesting point re future value. If you look at the market in USA for banned Defenders, what will happen in 5 years when they become a yuppie must have.

Well according to my dealer you won't be getting a 130 soon (gone) and I believe the 110 is soon after that...
I thought it was still gonna be a Defender but just on an all aluminium, monocoque body like the new Rangie and LR were saying it'd be their best and strongest Defender yet and it would appease the traditionalists whilst appealing to the wider community.
I did read that somewhere or am I totally off the mark/ have things changed recently?
Like AndyG mine is literally on its way.
I haven't bought it for an investment ans plan to keep it till stumps. This may be my first personal Defender but I have grown up with a number and always wanted one.
I will confess that the purchase was spurred by the imminent end of production. It just brought forward the plan to get one!
As per the title "Use it or investment"
In my opinion, it has no value unless used.
'Investment' to me means that you have some desire to recoup your cost price as much as possible. This depends on market value and whether this is aligned with your own personal value of an item.
A car will always be a depreciating asset. If the value you get for it, and its worth in your eyes never meets you perception of its market value, then all you've really done is sat on a car for years without getting any use (read value) out of it yourself. Philosophical, really but you get the idea. Consider these:
"Its only worth what someone will pay".
"If you don't use it, then it is just an expensive garage ornament".
"If you were looking for a investment, you'd probably buy a property, invest in shares, or deposit it in the bank"
"Not driving your Ferrari is similar to not sleeping with your girlfriend so she is better for the next guy"
