    Puma hazard lights

    G'day all,

I drive a 2011 110 wagon and was in an accident today.

I ran into the back of another car, everyone is ok.

I noticed my hazard lights came on and wouldn't stop until I shut down and restarted. Is this normal?

    Cheers,

    Humphrey

Yes, there is an inertia switch on the firewall in the engine bay, behind the motor. It's black with a button on top. If the impact is great enough, it will shut the fuel off and put the indicators on, you can reset it by pushing down on the top of it.
I got unexpectedly airborne on a cattle grid and the landing was hard enough to trigger the switch and shut the motor down.

    Interesting.

    '08 110 Puma Wagon

Sometimes when I hit a big bump the hazards come on but it doesn't shut the engine down or cut fuel off.

It's really, genuinely annoying....because I have to stop, shut down, restart and get up to speed again.

Christ I just made Monty sound like a laptop.

    Ditto

I recently asked LR agent in Adelaide to quote on a repair. They suggested that the problem was caused by broken solder connnections in the alarm ECU. To fix, I needed a new alarm ECU ($738) and labour for install of $412. For the present, I've chosen to remain alarmed.

I was told that the inertia switch can sometimes come loose as it is screwed to the firewall. My dealer used another screw to reaffix it, and it hasn't occurred since

Engine bay, firewall, roughly centre where you can easily reach it. My dealer made a point of pointing it out when I collected the car, or maybe he was worried about my driving
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

My hazards came on by themselves and I had to stop and restart the engine a couple of times on the The Rig Road due to some rather large corrugations shaking the ***t out of us and the vehicle.

The inertia switch certainly worked and gave me a bit of a shock when I tried to turn them off using the hazard lights switch before working out it was the inertia switch.

Does the 2.4 L Puma have an inertia switch?
