The current crop of motoring writers know more about smart phones and tight pants than they do about cars. Their idea of a great car is one that their phone syncs seamlessly with.
A Defender is completely alien to them.
30 years from now a car with a steering wheel will be a bizarre novelty.
The older journos are just on 'the circuit' for free manufacturer sponsored trips and should be ignored as well.
Summing up...ignore all motoring writers, they are clueless.
Yes, now we're getting somewhere. It's a big IF.
Agree motoring journos are full of it too. I love the constant disparaging comments about Defender, trotted out like clones over the years!
Yup I am very pessimistic about MYXX Defender, for good reason. JLR design team are paid the big bucks to pander to populism.
...It's like how every car manufacturer now has LED daytime running lights around the headlights! Wot the?! ...the new hilux has wierd botoxed eyebrows. It wouldn't surprise me if the whole new Defender design was centred around its LED running lights. Whatever. Yawn. Defender is over. I've almost been convinced to get a Mahindra.

I think we can Pickles. I'm calling it. Defender is over.
Whatever the next incarnation, if there ever is one, it won't be a Defender. It is unlikely to be super heavy duty, or be able to maintain that unique and enduring design philosophy and pedigree from series Land Rovers.
I also doubt it will be suitable for Defence force duties, therefore what would it be a defender of? Retro Image? Profit margins? ...whatever.
Defender is finished. Love the ones you're with :-)
Cheers
