The current crop of motoring writers know more about smart phones and tight pants than they do about cars. Their idea of a great car is one that their phone syncs seamlessly with.

A Defender is completely alien to them.

30 years from now a car with a steering wheel will be a bizarre novelty.

The older journos are just on 'the circuit' for free manufacturer sponsored trips and should be ignored as well.

Summing up...ignore all motoring writers, they are clueless.

I totally agree with you, I personally know of a motoring journalist here in Melbourne and all they are concerned about are the electronic gadgetry and how fast they will get from 0-100!

( "NEW" Defender?...Any comments about what it will be, or won't be,...all pure speculation......because NOBODY, except possibly a few of Mr McGovern's mates, know anything, not even a snippet, of what it will be,....if there is an "it".
    Pickles.
Yes, now we're getting somewhere. It's a big IF.

Agree motoring journos are full of it too. I love the constant disparaging comments about Defender, trotted out like clones over the years!

Yup I am very pessimistic about MYXX Defender, for good reason. JLR design team are paid the big bucks to pander to populism.

...It's like how every car manufacturer now has LED daytime running lights around the headlights! Wot the?! ...the new hilux has wierd botoxed eyebrows. It wouldn't surprise me if the whole new Defender design was centred around its LED running lights. Whatever. Yawn. Defender is over. I've almost been convinced to get a Mahindra.

    Ciao

But Mr Landy, that's just it, We can't say "Defender is over" at the moment, because we just don't know.......anything.

LR told me that my 2013 130 chassis failure must be the result of an impact because it hasn't happened before. That was without even looking at it.

Funny you should say that about LED running lights. I drove past the new JLR showroom at Springwood in Brisbane south last night and about half the Jaguars and LRs on display had been left with their running lights on to attract attention.

I think we can Pickles. I'm calling it. Defender is over.

Whatever the next incarnation, if there ever is one, it won't be a Defender. It is unlikely to be super heavy duty, or be able to maintain that unique and enduring design philosophy and pedigree from series Land Rovers.

I also doubt it will be suitable for Defence force duties, therefore what would it be a defender of? Retro Image? Profit margins? ...whatever.

Defender is finished. Love the ones you're with :-)

    Cheers
