Thread: Where have you fitted your additional power sockets?

My old Tdi CC isn't too different to yours.
I have two Hella sockets to fit and one will be going in the dash, as will a USB socket, and I really think I need one in the rear passenger area too for when the fridge is on the back seat and not in the tray.
Already have one in the tray.

Anderson plug for fridge, 2 x cig sockets for lights and extras, fused at single fuse block.



Usb sockets and cig socket at front of ex box, fused at single fuse box. Will run additional sockets to rear of ex box as required when kids are older.

Here's what I did...

Rear Power:


Back Seat Power. This is a unit I bought from Jaycar. It is held on with double sided tape and got used extensively when the kids used to come with us. I will probably remove it soon as it prevents the rear seat from folding forward. Since it was installed with double sided tape there will be no evidence left once removed:


Front passenger power:


I have an after market glovebox and there's a charging cable in there as well.

I was thinking of that, but I intend to install drawers, so not sure if they will block it, so might have to be higher.

I have the glovebox too, so might put one in there too. Can't have too many as I found out with the old one.

Got the new one dirty for the first time yesterday

As you alluded to, there's room to put it above the speaker. Glad to hear it got dirty! FWIW, every cent I've spent on panel protection has paid off. Based on what happened to your 300TDi last time we went for a drive a set of bumparettes may be a good investment for you

I have two 12v sockets in the roof console, handy for charging iPad/ torches and so on. These get used all the time because it's easy to put whatever's charging, up and out of the way.

In the rear, I have a 12v socket and a USB charger on the passenger side just aft of the gullwing. These get used less but they're very handy for running an LED camping light off, for example.

I have an Anderson plug outside the car under the rear bar which I use to plug in the compressor.

The last power-related mod I did was to install a solar panel on the roof and a Goal Zero Yeti 400 battery which has 2 x 12v sockets and 2 x 240v plug outlets which are probably unnecessary but useful for charging a laptop or something.

I have drawers in and I put a double at the rear on the top of the side panel for the drawers but under the window so I can still load crates etc without them getting in the way. I put a single at the front of the cargo area on top of the same side panel which can be accessed for the rear seats although at the moment I plug the fridge into it. I put a fuse box in which I also run the rear worklight through.

I had a National Luna battery monitor I bought for my old camper trailer which I never used so I plugged that in through the fuse box as well. I have that stuck on with double sided tape to the rear panel but it keeps falling off so need to sort something else out for that.

I've got draws and fitted 1 merit plug on each side into the speaker trim.
They are under the window trim so out of harms way for any big items on top of the drawers.
Fridge cables then run up the sides and no plugs are hanging out to bump accidently.


Additionally....
-1 merit plug under the LHR seat bracket with higher rated cable so it can be used for an 240v invertor.
-1 merit plug external between the number plate and the number plate light(for the awning light)
-Switch mounted into the number plate light extension housing for a rear mounted LED light
-Dash mounted USB above the grab handle instead of below as per the other posts.
