The handles aren't quite a flush fit because the A-pillar trim has a curved surface and the base of the handle is flat, I considered mixing some black epoxy putty to put under them to fill the space but didn't bother in the end, mightn't be a bad idea but I was in a rush to get a number of jobs done for a trip. I use the one on the drivers side every time I get into the vehicle and it has some movement, one of these days I'll flip the covers and tighten the screws but really it is a non-issue, just make sure the screws you use have plenty of bite as there is not much depth to the part they screw into- I wouldn't like my good lady to end up on her back on the ground with the grab handle in her hand. They also look like they're meant to be there.
Best to do both sides, if you continually use the steering wheel to climb into the vehicle you will end up with slop in the steering column bushes.

A little work with a course half round file would soon have them sitting flush and neat on the piller trim Doing that would also negate the movement as you pulled yourself up and make it stronger by stopping them rolling.

That frame isn't very strong - over time it will bend...

The better choice is step up, back in..

    Hi Tombie,
Which frame isn't strong - the A pillar, or something else?

Thanks mate , not sure if that's the one , for some reason I thought that there was a fixing on the bottom corner as well , but I could be wrong . At least you can see what I mean , It sits up in the corner out of the way , but easy to reach !!.. Jim .

I just put the foot closest to the vehicle on the side step and then lift myself up with my leg while swiveling my bum onto the seat and steadying myself with my arm. Legs are stronger than arms.

Yep there's always a way to climb in and us blokes will make do, when I was paying attention to how I get in yesterday I don't actually use the added grab handle that much, but sometimes we have to add some niceties to help our wives live with the defender. We lived in the vehicle for 10 weeks last year, my wife has crook knees so climbing into a raised 130 was going to be a struggle. The handle up nice and high made all the difference.
