You have your priorities right! A man after my own heart.
I'm relocating to Victoria for work and thinking rather than take the offer of paid airfares we drive across from Perth with the kids (still reimbursed for fuel and accommodation).
Nice day in Melbourne today, Wifey thinks we should go to Doyles Mordi for a nice eye fillet,...not a bad idea?
BUT can't drive Gracie there, we'd be walking,....so,.....better idea, drive down to Sorrento in Gracie (can't miss an opportunity to get into Gracie on a day like today!) & have an eye fillet (they do a good one!) at the Sorrento Hotel, so yep, we'll do that.
Get to drive Gracie, have an eye fillet & a red,...what can be better?...So, off we go,...rang the Sorrento Hotel on the way down,...heavily booked, can't get "our" table,...never mind, we'll go down to Sorrento anyway,...which we did,...grabbed an egg bacon & cheese toastie and a coffee, and then we're back in Gracie again, on our way to Flinders, & then back to sunny downtown Aspendale, and Gracie goes into the garage,.....and we walk to Doyles for a MAGNIFICENT eye fillet & a couple of reds,...and we walk home.
So, at the end of the day, I got to have a lovely drive in Gracie, & also consumed a sensational medium rare eye fillet,...can't beat that?
Don't know what it is about driving Gracie, but it's just as good as enjoying a Medium Rare eye fillet!
Pickles.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!
My thoughts are how many times in your family's life will you have a chance to do this sort of drive together?
It may drive some insane but it's like the national lampoon films - moments and memories you will all remember much more than a flight.
And going back to Pickles initial comments - think of how many good steaks you might enjoy on the journey!
And going back to the original topic. For me driving a Defender is the unique experience of driving something still almost new that reminds me of my first cars and childhood.
Maybe it is the early British, or the 1970s or 80s feel. Whatever it is it is hard to put your finger on.
Amusingly wherever I go I get people reminding me of their similar past experiences despite the fact they may be driving Toyotas etc.
I know exactly what you mean. Kerry and I are away this weekend and we took the Defender. Threw the Kayak on the roof and set off. Probably didn't need to take the Defender but 'why not'. Stopped off for the bakery pie and coffee on the way. Nothing better.
I think it's the air of adventure, even if you know deep down its just a lazy weekend drive for a pie and a cup of coffee!
I love the car, and the people you meet because of it. It's as much a life style choice as just about anything I think.
Or am I a bit sad? Haha.![]()
Fantastic article in The Australian newspaper this date, Life section on the Defender. Worth a look. Cheers
