I'm going to challenge my brother Dennis to a drag race. He's only got a 260 Boss in his and no turbo.
Cheers, Billy.
Keeping it simple is complicated.
You can race at each other and just drive over!
Strange as it may seem - there do seem to be a few clapped out old defenders about. That struggle to do 100 and ....etc.
Not that it matters, 6 of one, half dozen of another, just for completeness: I wouldn't have said his barge was clapped out. He said it had some engine work (to improve performance) but can't remember what. He was pushing a lot of weight (bars/racks everywhere and winch etc), 35" XTs, and with the all the gear inside may have been pushing GVM (guessing). Maybe tie-rod ends were shot to account for the steering(?)
(And at no time (in this thread) was I suggesting TDx vehicles are all generally incapable of 100kmh. That said - if you really want to debate whether 110's are the best and only real Land Rover, there is a fairly current thread for that. You can tackle my comments on TDCi ABSOLUTE superiority over ALL it's predessors in there.)

If I go back to my first 109 , 75mph ,with the wind behind ,down hill . I used to drive It hard as I could around bends to see if I could get It on two wheels ! never could . That had 750 x16 cross ply's . That was 40 years ago I've settled down heaps since those long ago day's . I've had a stage One v8 for quite a few years . Onece again not a great speed machine , even with stage two cam and rebuilt 3.5 . Then a 110 county , swapped the 3.5 for a 4.4 plus r380 gearbox . Now that will accelerate up a hill with a caravan on the back easy . Next td5 there do the job , but a bit underpowered with say a tandem tailor and short wheel base Land Rover on the Back . Forget trying to overtake at 100ks . So now the 2.2 110 I'm loving to feed back about there towing ability , as I have a 16ft van weighs about 1.2 ton empty . I do think you need speed at overtaking , especially to get past a long load !!.. Jim![]()
