I wish I had done this some months ago, as regular trips between the bush property & house in Perth result in us dropping rubbish off at the neighbours with their complete knowledge, and 4 weeks ago this did not end well for our little Auster who got mauled by their Staffy Bull Terrier. Not the neighbours fault but our little fellas for running into their compound. Anyway many $$$$'s later, two operations he is now on the mend:

    Not a happy chappy.
    Glad He's coming good.

Thanks Pickles, It has been a long 5 weeks as one of us has been with him almost constantly. I think he is just as psychologically scarred as he is physically.

Hi juddy, I did get a new mud flap & will use this just for best:

There are only 3 bolts (8mm) holding the flap to the crossmember, so I will just keep it for shows. My short term repair with pinch weld is holding up well & with the white tyre marker I can make it look almost like new.

Hugh's Kitchen arrived today from Drifta, the standard car back kitchen. Very pleased with the product & service from Drifta:

    Trial fit with seats up:

Seat down but had to remove plastic trim from the seat fold mechanism. No big deal & the dog should be happy as he likes sitting in his own seat:

It is a cracker of a kitchen:

Also installed the Ram Mount for the iPad off road GPS:

This came from 4X4Overlander.com in the UK but is the Nakatanenga product. Again helpful service & looks like a ram xgripIII will fit an iPad 3 & maybe an iPad mini in its case.

Anderson Plug for air compressor, solar panel charger, fridge, etc. Slotted hole cut in battery cover to facilitate installation - it's just a cover!:

Final recent installation was the wireless reverse camera. Great view of the tow ball, but everything else sneaks up real quick:

Removed dash pad from the cover, fiddly spring clips, but patience & a small screw driver & they do come off. Styrofoam pad is stored for future installation if reverted back to standard. Measure from the vehicle & draw up on graph paper:

    Transferred to thin aluminium sheet:

    Cut out with tin snips:

Holes drilled for rivets & dash lid, then painted with etch primer & matt black acrylic. Edged with small size pinch weld to prevent cuts on the sharp edges which were deburred but still quite sharp, as I only had 0.5mm thick alloy in the shed. Pinch weld also stiffens this up:

Install front plate with two small self tappers:

Rivet lid plate, & hinge plate to piano hinge - went for the Heritage brass version. Hinge plate then screws to existing cover mount using the same screws:

Finished article looks like the original, except a tad higher at the windscreen side:

I now have somewhere else to hide stuff, like glasses which I can never find in the cubby, they always sink down to the bottom under the cd's, hat, torch etc.

Cracking thread there fella you've given me a whole lot of ideas for my 130 but the best is your glove box build. As I was found to do the same as you and get one from the uk. But having seen your build there I'm going to have a go too so thanks for your pics Anh instructions......

You have a very collectable 90 there sir.I've just seen a hugh110 here in NZ on trade me at just shy of 100K very nice but well out of my price range.......

    New longer mirror arms.

With thanks to a austastar for his post of June 2010 on installing the longer Wolf style mirror arms. With a caravan arriving in the next couple of months I ordered a set of the longer arm, & on this wet Saturday decided it was time to install:

So forwarned by austatstar that these hinge bolts do not have captive nuts, I made a plasticard lock tool & blue tac with some extra shims of plasticard jammed between the nuts & door skin:

Removed the bolts folded out the hinge to reveal not a lot of Grasmere green paint under the hinge, some extra hairy stuff & paint through to metal on the door presumable from the rubber gasket:

You can also see the two phillips screws which secure the arms to the hinge. I have coated all of this with ACF-50 so hopefully corrosion will not be an issue!

Installed the mirror arms & bolted up the hinge. There is a rubber gasket between the hinge & the door, one on the L/H side & 2 on the drivers side!

Photo above to illustrate the difference in length, which is 130mm.

Finished job, & the mirrors only protrude 50mm further out when folded back to the normal driving position:

    Great work.
    Cheers, Billy.
    Keeping it simple is complicated.
