Thread: Toyota drivers dont expect new Defenders power..

I get this sort of thing all the time, invariably by Jap 4WD's driven by Bogans! It's like a game for them, have to pass the crappy old Landrover....
I drive a chipped TD5, so not as fast as a new Puma, and not as fast as the new Jap common rail diesels, but it goes and handles pretty bloody well for what it is

There must be a rule out there (for other 4WD manufactures) that says you must hold back a Defender - especially when there is a over taking lane ahead --> they seem to hold back before speeding up!

I have owned my lovely PUMA 2.2l for a short while - and have been held back a lot crossing the hills out here!

I have also annoyed a few other 4WD brands when have I snuck around them on the over taking lanes - just a matter of timing and the right gear. The 2.2l is getting stonger as the miles get put on it - so I suspect it will respond better over time (only 4k on the speedo).

When I get the BAS retune it will no longer be a matter of luck

Haven't had any real issues with other 4WDs holding us up, but plenty of the usual car drivers who sit in the RH lane & won't move over, those that sit 5-7ks under the speed limit, and won't move over etc etc.
The really "funny" ones, well not really funny, are the situations where you see one of these "Volvo Drivers" sitting on a freeway doing about 95ks, and refusing to move over for a semi who would be maybe 6-7 meters behind with the grille of the truck FILLING the car's interior RV mirror, but no, they just sit there,...must be so annoying for the truck driver.
I'm pretty happy with the Puma 2.2, a bit slow taking off from the lights as a prior poster has said, but the only time that there was a bit of an issue was when we went to Broken Hill, & we needed to pass B Doubles from time to time,......that did require a bit of "planning"!

I went down to Cairns in my car with passengers and my friend with his going to an event. I couldnt believe his driving, he hung out in the outside lane for kms and kms. We pulled over as soon as we could and he just stayed there even when people flashed him to move. When we arrived I asked him what he was doing and did he realize that he was annoying a lot of other drivers, he didnt care, he said his next turn was right and he was getting ready, I siad did he really need to 'get ready' 5km before the turn!!

Mine has a Steinbauer chip so, while it's no rocketship, it does get along well once you get it moving. The highway gearing is good too. It's fun to watch Toyota bogans assuming they will leave me for dead and then realizing it isn't happening.

Toyota CUBS certainly are the worst culprits.

I think that attitude is prevalent in all sort of interests and sports. If someone is better at their chosen sport than you, merely because they spend more time at it, they carry on like they're a superior person. I surf and I see it all the time but hey, have a look at snow skiers - snobsville on sterioids!
