Reminds me of how much enjoyment I used to have in my uni days (and early working days) when I would be driving back to Perth from helping my parents on the farm in my 1972 Rover P6. It was a camel/sand almost Land Rover colour that no one loved which made it cheap for me but that baby used to surprise all the boguns in their V8s when I would power past them. Admittedly not that cheap to run going to uni in Perth but I have to say I wish my new tdci had that rover V8. I reckon that is one of the best sounding engines ever.

I did nothing knowing the hill ahead I just stayed with him, close but not too close, just enough that he knew I was there. The 80km/h zone finished and then the 100 zone started, he has been doing 70 to annoy me and then as soon as the 100 zone started he sped off, but I stayed with him. The hill started, but I was still there, I could see him looking in the mirror looking confused, he has a last ditch effort he went to 120km/h but the Defender was still there, now you could really see his annoyance. I passed him and he realized he had massively underestimated the Defender and he dropped back to below 100km/h. I went back to 100 and continued on home. I think a lot of people especially those driving older Cruisers think all Defenders are old slow heaps of junk. This guy had a big surprise, not sure what the conversation was with his mates in the car after a chugging Defender passed him ..

Ive had a similar thing happen to me with a bloke in a 76 series. We were coming back from Melbourne and this bloke was extremely inconsistent on the throttle so i decided to over take him. There was a long slight incline hill and i just punched it and before you know it i had passed him, probably doing around 126km per hour. The idiot then decided he'd try to overtake me, but he had another thing coming! I punched the accelorater and got upto 145km per hour. He could not pass me, the look on his face.
You see ive got a decat and modded exhaust, intercooler and remap and speed limiter increase. Thing should have around 150-170hp and around 450-470nm. Add to this thr ligter weight in the defender and "see you later buddy"

Sorry guys but this kind of thing is total stupidity in my opinion. It's just what we need. Two heavy forbies belting along a public road in close proximity each doing close to 145 km/hr.

Please think with the head that contains your brain, and resist the urge to engage in this type of behaviour. It really is dangerous and illegal and should be avoided.

I guess you guys are the same ones who think speeding fines are just revenue raising.

It is only in Aus that 145 is considered fast, it is only 85 miles an hour, in the UK you need to be doing that to keep up with the flow of traffic, in Italy you would be in the slow lane, in Germany you would be a snail pace (the motorways are rough as guts, but my last visit I was doing 125 MILES an hour on them which is 200kmh). As a fire fighter I attend road crashes, most are due to people swerving for animals, drink driving (not the limit, many times over) and loosing control on dirt roads often due to leaving electronic stability control switched on. Speeding is not even in the top 10 reasons for crashes, actually cars not road worthy dont make the top 10 either.
Speeding though is easy to make revenue from much harder to make revenue from skippy leaping in front of a car a dawn.. So yes I do think speeding is revenue raising, but I go and pick up the pieces after road crashes, so I know speed is not the problem..

We were discussing with the Captain one evening after training about reasons for crashes, I asked if in his 25 years he had seen many crashes due to bald tyres or other roadworthy issues, he said no actually he thought non at all..

I actually speed on the way to the fire station if I am attending a road crash, I am not supposed to, I can only take advantage of the special dispensations of the road rules when I am in the fire truck. Saying that myself and other fire fighters know the Police will have had the same call we had and will not be checking for speeders, we also know arriving 2 minutes earlier may save a life. 130km/h or more is not fast on deserted roads especially if you are driving defensively.

I had one at Uni too in the UK!!!
I had 120 (miles an hour out of mine, but mine had been err breathed on a bit ) I did not go that fast in it often though as you could actually see the fuel gauge going down at that speed!!! Very stable though at speed due to the De dion suspension, but changing the rear pads is a pain in the butt or you cut holes in the floor and fit removable plates, dont ask me how I know
Here is a De dion for anyone who does not know https://www.google.com.au/search?q=d...iaRNLMC0Ad4%3D

Mate i agree with most of what you are saying. However in saying that its not something i practice all the time, in fact im a professional driver and im as safe as they come. I drive everything from truck and dogs, crane/hiab bogeys, tippers and also ride a 1000cc super bike. If i decide on one occasion and under satisfactory conditions to have a squirt and i am confident in that there is no risk and potential harm to anyone then why not have a bit of fun?
Im aware of my surroundings, its the people that drive on "auto pilot" that are the most likely to have an accident. Speeding in itself requires attention and a level of concentration that many people neglet when doing the limit with the cruise control on. All the near misses i have had in a heavy vehicle have mainly come from people who are unaware of their surroundings: like a b double right next to them before they decide to merge lane.
Again i understand your reasoning, I know it is ilegal to speed but at that monent and at that time i had a bit of fun under circumstances that i beleived to be safe. Drove home the next 6 hours doing the limit
