There are a lot of idiots on the road, what am I saying not just on the road.. Speed is not the problem, but speed is easy to check and it brings in a lot of fines which powers that be love. Truth is most that speed are doing 85 instead of 80 or maybe 108 in a 100 zone, probably on a down hill stretch and the police love these areas for speed traps. Not road safety just quotas and not good at all.

There are good blokes and idiots in every type of car, had a disco do the slow down to 70 after the overtaking lanes on the pacific hwy. But yes there are more tossers in patrols and toyos as a lot of the early 18- early 20s guys love them. And at that age we were all tossers trying to prove ourselves using various mediums (football, textbooks,10" lift etc ) to a greater or lesser extent.

Though I do agree with lynching perpetual right lane drivers of all ages and car makes

Yes, sure there are those among us who are professional drivers, or highly trained, or at least trained to some degree.

My point is, most drivers on Australian public roads are not well trained and cannot safely handle a vehicle at high speed, let alone a Defender which is not designed for high speed. Many can't even display the ability to drive in a reasonably safe manner on a daily basis, yet they still attain a licence.

Speed may not be the single causal factor in many collisions, but the point is that the excessive speed contributes to worse collision results. Try stopping your Defender to avoid hitting a roo (or anything else) at 145km/hr and you will be in for a shock. Any collision at high speed is bad news.

I understand the OP point about returning to legal speed after the incident, but it only takes one **** up at high speed and it can be all over. It's not worth it.

No, speeding fines are just paying to play.

    And revenue raising...

    Pretty much...

If you are breaking the law, you are paying good attention to your surroundings, therefore you are safer on the road because you know what the hell is happening. That's my theory anyway.

Plus, having driven and raced what I have... I know how to crash so I know what to avoid (never had an on-road accident where I've been at fault).

AND it only costs $260 once every 5 years IME...

My D2 is red, so it goes faster

That's the reason VicRoads won't go to an annual RWC scheme. Their own data shows that less than 1/2 of 1% of accidents have any cause due to the vehcile actually being unroadworthy.

'There's nought so dumb as folk' as they say - people cause accidents, not vehicles.

The boys at work and i always say:

"everyone can get a license but not everyone can drive!"

So simple but so true. Also for the record I've got a perfect recorded in 17 years I've only had 1 speeding fine (15 and under) and one "not at fault" accident (lady ran into me, i would have avoided that too as i saw it coming had it not been for the car stopped in front of me.

I've done most of my speeding at eastern creek track days
