There is option c babs that will require a bit more planning but could get you what you want?
Buy an old td5 ( best of them are pre 2003 with the Salisbury that can be strengthened to Dana 60 spec)with abs/tc and a stuffed engine, then do the ls3 plus auto and fit out the dash as you want, maybe toss the factory ac and go a red dot ac unit (like another bloke on here did from Qld )on the roof with vents from a middle head unit on roof inside wagon. While the engines and transmissions getting swapped get them to install an acre of dynamat if you don't want to hear the v8 to much . Then sell your puma defender to just about cover the cost.

Ha ha ha 😀 those last couple replies came in as I was typing up.

I still need a seven seater at the end of the day.

Maybe a D2 Disco??? That would make a great conversion.

The Ranger 3.2 motor might be an option as well. Ahhh bloody Land Rover why couldn't they just do it right from the beginning. They should have had bigger engines and an auto option. Wa wa wa same ole gripe.

The td5 and earlier where factory option of 9 seats, getting the right reinforced mounts to put in puma seats all through with 7 nice seats and getting the engineering done at the same time as the motor would save $$$. The front and middle row should be similar or the same mounts as previous models, just the rear load area is significantly different as my td5 has 4 inward facing seats via 2 benches whereas yours is 2 full bucket seats facing forward.

There's a D2a running around with a turbo ls3 and 6 speed auto, and everything works, ACE, SLS, factory dash, AC, the whole lot.

Tristan sent me some links this avo and said it would be OK to share.

This was his LS3. Looks pretty neat, even the different dash looks better than what I would have thought.

Thanks to Kelvin for arranging this.

Ha ha ha 😀 yeah I get the same feeling.
I convinced Bruce Davis yesterday evening to help me with it, he is going to talk with Tristan.

It's a sure thing that Can Bus won't be able to talk with anything else, so we just have to confirm that trac control/abs and AC are a separate unit, then replace the dash.

Tristan never did a build thread and is not a member of the forum so he can't post pics etc.
    Hence why I posted them.

I will be speaking with him as I go down this path though so I will post up any Intel I gather.

    Wish me luck guys.

If anyone knows or can recommend a dash or gauges etc I'd love to hear about or see links. Cheers.
