Took out my catalytic converter today. Bit of mucking around(take off the front tail shaft, cross member and heat shields) and emptying out the innards (with the help of a hammer and screw driver) and then put it all back in again. Its a fair bit lighter without all the porcelain etc inside it. Still looks like the genuine part and all the shields just bolt back on. Sounds a little bit throatier so will be interesting to see if it performs and differently or the economy is any better. Hopefully its just cooler.lol

Today I installed a silicone BAS intercooler hose. Here is a short video outlining the process. It's easy when you know how!

    -better mid range torque
Basically your letting the motor breathe better. I dont care what anyone says in regards to the exhaust, it is restrictive!
As for turbo over spool, my gauge hits 22 psi and stays there. IT DOES NOT OVERSPOOL! Sorry i put that in caps because people on Aulro throw that around all the time in regards to the puma engine and exhaust, its bs
The overspooling seems to originate from advice from Pete of Bas in a conversation with you, being Bas remap 10 June 2015. Where basically some restriction is required.

Personally, snorkel, Nugget air box, Bas inter cooler, Bas 150 tune and removing centre muffler, the straight Thru pipe made a world of difference and here I stop.

    Next, the Ashcroft magic wand
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
    apologies to Socrates

The overspooling isn't a issue with a free flowing standard diameter exhaust. It becomes an issue when you increase the pipe diameter. "Komaterpillar" a member on this site had his turbo go due to a straight through 3 inch exhaust if im not mistaken.

My boost gauge hits 22 psi and stays there, it does not fluctuate at all. It is rock steady.

If someone were to ask me the 4 best mods to do a puma id say:
    - hd flanges both front and rear
    - remap
    - straight through standard diameter exhaust
    - bigger intercooler

People on this site manage to get their vehicle into limp mode on a standard tune/ standard car. I dont care how loaded it is and what its towing or how hot it was...to me this is both unacceptable and a ticking time bomb. If you could make more power, lower your engine temp and run low egts why would you avoid it?? To me and my real world testing with my pre turbo mounted egt readings (in the correct place, not after turbo) my results show that a safe relaible power increase is achievable through some careful thinking.
By the way having egr disabled actually increases engine temp slightly, Lorryman has proved this using his ultra gauge readings and his tuning interface. I run lower everything cause i have the correct mods in place.

As for Pete (who is a tech guru and i reapect very much), id say that he has a certain responsibility to insure people with his tune dont start doing stupid exhaust mods and start blowing things up. He supplies bowler defenders with a 170hp tune, all those vehicles run 3 inch exhausts with all the correct epa gear. I cant prove it but id say that the standard diameter puma exhaust with no restrictions would be very similar flowong to a 3 inch with all the epa gear.
Sorry for long rant What did you do to your Puma today?

I got the rear diff back in after being upgraded with the Truetrac from the D2.
I striped the centre out and took it to Les Richmond to install with a Ashcroft adaptor he had in stock, all at a very fair price including 2 new carrier bearings.
I then discovered the start battery is on the way out so only a quick road test, noticably less drive line slap.
New battery goes in Saturday then a good run to see how it all feels.

I have added a decat pipe and got rid of the centre muffler for a straight through pipe. Decat is from Bruce Davis. I wrapped it in dei exhaust wrap. Whistle is present and a bit throaty now. Also feels like it breathes better now.

i have also had my grind system installed. The water pump is under the driver side wingtop and the heat exchange is behind my steering guard on the chassis. The switch for the pump is on my steering column. The outlet for the shower head is on my bullbar which is great because I could make a bracket up on the uhf antenna to hold the shower head. The only thing is that the pump sucks water quickly so if using a bucket it will go quickly.
