    Exclamation 300tdi Mild performance enhancements?

    Hello All!

I'm sure this has been asked, but my fingers aren't having much luck digging the solid info out.

Now i know its no race car, but if i can get extra poke around the city without loosing reliability, why not.

In order to give a stock 300tdi some performance:

    - Turbo.
What is considered a good street upgrade turbo ?
And because it's a pre-ECU era, how does one make engine aware of the upgrade, how does one controll the boost? (Sorry im a total noob with older diesel engines).

    - Exhaust.
Now considering its a daily , and im over the "louder is better" phase, what have people found to work well ? 3.5" TB ... ?

    - Intercooler.
Without going custom, is there any larger intercoolers that fit with minimal modifications?

Anything else i may be missing?

    Many thanks in advance!

    Cheers

Just get it tuned mate, remember these engines were factory set to meet the then emissions standards not performance.Get a good tuner, there are a few around to set the old girl up on the dyno and you'd be surprised at how well it'll go. Pat

I have a VNT turbo and it almost eliminates the lag and gives a small performance boost aswell . I like it .

    - Exhaust.
Now considering its a daily , and im over the "louder is better" phase, what have people found to work well ? 3.5" TB ... ? 2.5 to 3" seems to be the go. 3.5 might be droney.

    - Intercooler.

Anything else i may be missing? some say fitting a snorkel makes an improvement

    Many thanks in advance!

    300 tdi mild improvements

Hi traktor, i have my 110 tdi for 15 years and have gradually evolved it in stages.

Upgraded intercooler and hoses, tweek of the fuel pump. cheap and noticeable improvement , the stock intercooler is quite restrictive.

removed 1 st muffler and fitted pipe, cheap and no gain I could notice.

Garrett 2256 VNT, and tweeked up the fuel pump, expensive, but worth every penny IMV , It changed the car and made it so much easier to drive on and offroad because of the widened torque band. can hold speed and go up most highway hills in top gear. its mild not wild low exhaust temps etc, cheers simmo

+1 for the Allisport intercooler. I bought a new one for my Disco a few months ago and it certainly goes better. Not a drag car by any means, but much more driveable with the increase in power and torque that you can feel.

Fit a 4BD1T. It will be a better investment in the long run...

    Mine has;

    Turner performance head
    TRS intercooler
    New stock turbo
    2.5" exhaust
Reco FIP that has been tweaked
    Small boost increase

Keeps up with traffic no problem, and very few hills slow it down enough to warrant a change from 5th to 4th.

EGT tops out at 650c before turbo, flat stick on the worst hills, such as heading into Adelaide on the SE Freeway.

A bitsa with an old truck engine won't be much of an investment.
