Install the lick shift and changed the gear knob.

    Yep, that was me.
it changed the geometry of the shift a tiny bit, and I’ve some how ended up with a firmer shift, but after a day of use, I don’t know any different.
i love it, firm, direct, and will never come loose due to the grub screw working loose.
    Highly recommended!

I was ready to buy one but was put off by these reports. Is there anything obvious that would cause this.

So... How is one better than the other?
IIRC the slick shift was a 2piece job (hence some people welding and fitting tape etc)?

No parts except the boot reused.
Plastic coated ball as per factory.
    No rattle.

    I have a 2015 2.2 Puma.
I fitted the slickshift about 3 months ago.
The fitting was very easy, and its a VERY VERY worthwhile mod.
Its loosened up a bit since fitted, the only downside is that navigation reverse is a harder.

After driving a heap of Defender TDCi (puma) models with the slick shift, I like the forward gear shift but hate the difficult selection of reverse and would never live with that.

i drove a Navara yesterday, to find reverse you need a degree in gear brail and a detailed map - right to 6th, 45 deg down into the gate, up a little and down into the gear. I tried to teach the wife. it is like tieing a tie on someone else, the mind couldn't unboggle the steps not sitting in the drivers seat.

Good to know in advance the slick shift has its flaws. i just ordered one. The wife will be impressed with me based on the Navara experience.

I noticed reverse was a bit more tricky to engage also, however that was only the first day or so. I had forgotten about it until I read the reverse comments. For me personaly it is a worthy trade of, I generaly try not to go backwards
