If the Constable had just told me to remove ladder and not noted it was in breach of that rule I probably would just have gotten a half ladder, but given a note has been made about it it's going on the spare! (And then I can reinstall my full length ladder also which I have a table mounted off).

I'm not sure if a stock defender with a 235 wide tyre/no swing away arm is in breach (I have 285s and a swing away arm which adds some fat to it) and frankly I wouldn't be concerned or bothered even if it was slightly obscured. You'd be super super unlucky to get pinged on that.

I.e. a good idea and it probably would be fine but because I've been warned I personally won't risk it. For anyone else I think it'd be unlikely you'd be done just on the angle rule alone.
Ah you have seen the new Deafener then?

His supervisor intervened and told me to move on.
Maybe he should have to the "Officious One" to move on or get retrained?

I suppose not such an issue so long as keep plate on the spare wheel mount and can just have a plug from that mount.

What about some of those mating insulated small crimp fittings? The male side is like a torpedo shape & should go through the holes IMHO.

You could add Fly Leads to them if you are running out of cable length.

I used an LED Autolamps all-in-one licence plate light/mount on a little bracket I made up. Yours was pretty bad, but I reckon the cops would've taken more of an exception to me leaving my number plate in the standard spot.

I have not had a run in with QT inspectors for quite a while now. QT used to be full of little Hitlers who didn't know their own Dept's rules or were prone to over-zealous enforcement of minor regulation. They seem to have given up the idea of random roadside inspections. I remember they had one on Old Cleveland rd. Camp Hill in daylight hours for near three weeks and seemed to concentrate on pulling over older cars, ten years and more, or vehicles with obvious faults and damage.

I could be in trouble here too, without even looking at the back
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Me too, if this is 20 degrees then my number plate is obscured. Hopefully Mr Plod won't notice.

I know that it's a silly question, but it is still bugging me anyway... So I am wondering why is your rear mudflap facing the wrong way?

Yep that's a fail! (along with the other 99% defenders in same position). I have the same wheel carrier so it was pretty much exactly that (albeit I have some 285 rubber also). I'm sure the constables won't notice though. I was unfortunate as he was demonstrating to me how I was in breach of the laws and realised himself the second failure...
