OK, home from work and I see this thread... now to put you all out of your misery

Yes it is OEM checker plate, but not the one for the post-07 Defender. After a few posts on UK forums it seems that most people have the checker plate from pre-07 Defenders fitted.

There are 3 differences in the checker plate kits:
    1. Part number (Silver - the black is a different part)
    (<07) STC7667
    (>07) LR005230
    2. Length. The pre-07 goes all the way back past the aerial, the post-07 stops short (and must also be a little narrower as the 07 bonnet is slightly wider - I've just discovered)
    3. (Most importantly) The cost. Strangely the new model's costs a lot more and you get less

So because I got the pre-07 checker plate which needs a hole drilled near the A-piller and because the Mantec snorkel will hinder the drill access the checker plate goes on first, the snorkel second.

Before you rush off and get the checker plate for the pre-07 model just wait until I fit mine.

I've now found the following issues to overcome:
Aerial end is to wide as the Puma bonnet is over an 1" closer to the edge of the guard on each side. This means it will either have to fit under the closed bonnet or be trimmed.
Front end is also slightly to wide, but should fit under bonnet end.

This is a set back as I research this and found on the UK sites that most said if they had the OEM checker plate the aerial went through it. Therefore it is the pre-07 checker plate.

I'm hesitant to trim the pate as this will adversely effect the anodising so in the worst case I'll use it on my Tdi and get some of the more expensive stuff.

Only have my self to blame as I have 2 Defenders parked side by side everyday and still didn't pick up on the bonnet width between them

Few posts, emails and phone calls and it looks like most people still manage to fit the pre-07 checker plate to the Puma. Anyway a bit more looking at mine and it definitely won't fit. It would appear that the closure tolerance on my bonnet is better than other ones. Looking at Scallops' pic I think he might have the same tight gap at the rear of the bonnet. It would fit but the panel would rub on the plate and so ... you get the idea!

Anyway, its going on the Tdi and I've ordered the right part.

Thanks Lou, talking with Ian this afternoon it dawn on me that yours is 2mm and the OEM is 3mm. That said people are still able to fit the OEM plate, just not me. So now my other Defender (Tdi) has nice genuine checker plate over the dents in the wings

As for the Puma, its on order.

    Mantec Snorkel fitted

Fitted the Mantec "plastic jobbie" today. Very simple 2 x 5mm holes in the A-piller and 2 x 9mm above the air intake for the 2 rivnuts. I've discovered a small air leak where it sits against the panel. When I can get some sikaflex that will be sealed.

If you do fit one of these yourself check out the detailed instructions on the Defender2.net site. The one's that are included from Mantec are over simplified... or is that being to polite.
