 There was no need for them to do so. There has been no local manufacture for around five years, and there is no prospect of that changing. With the size of the market being minuscule in global terms, if Australia formulated and imposed "binding emission standards" of our own, manufacturers, especially the Europeans and North Americans, simply wouldn't bother to build cars for here.
