Well, my thoughts on the Mustang are well known, and they stand, but I do acknowledge that Ford only have themselves to blame for the Ancap rating, however IMHO, here are many on this forum who wouldn't buy a Mustang even if it had an Ancap rating of 5M.
Nevertheless, none of this is affecting the worldwide success that the new Mustang has been for Ford, and also in Australia, where our demand for such vehicles is miniscule, albeit relative to the world market.
Nevertheless, in Aussie, despite Anscap, sales are going very well, the Mustang is now Australia's best selling sportscat, sales increasing 78.2% in 2017.
Would I buy one, well I might, but I wouldn't be happy with the standard product. I'd be going straight to Herrod who have the Aussie rights to Ford motorsport upgrades, & I'd have 'ém fit their blower, driveline, suspension & brake upgrade, with full Ford warranty (different rules for aftermarket re emissions etc), and the finished product is still cheaper than the HSV product of which I've also owned a few,...gotta love my V8s.
In the meantime, whilst Wifey likes the Mustang, she prefers her RS3, and I ain't selling Gracie, so I can't see one in our garage!

But I'm being facetious - sales are indeed going nuts - up to over 1,350 units in May alone up from 630 something. We actually did look at one for SWMBO but it wasn't for us. They are a good looking car though.

Some people are happy with 306KW,...but for the relatively reasonable price of obtaining 500KW, in spite of me being old, I would enjoy it, I REALLY would.
I don't thnk I've ever driven anything over 400KW, so 500KW would be a new experience for me!....but to quote you "ït ain't for us",......not at this time anyway!

Reckon it would be fun for a month or two, and then the poor build and ergonomics would pall. In the US it's cheap, in the UK it's even cheaper, in a relative sense, but here? Way, way too dear. I'd much rather find a low k XR6 Turbo, or the last XR8 with the GT engine. They even disabled the "drift" function here! Seems that was really the only point of 500KW in a chassis as crude as that. Oh, and then there's the absolutely pitiful size of the fuel tank.

On the "sales success" thing, well, of course. Ford haven't had a hero car really since the first XR6Ts and Typhoons. The last HSVs are mind blowing, so Ford fans need some sort of cred. As a bloke who fell for Beechey's Mustang, and then that insane car of Moff's, I'm there. But this 'Stang is a disappointment to me. They could have done something truly special, and if they'd used the Falcon platform they would have.. Sure, if you watch the opening scenes of Episode One of the Grand Tour, you will see what the tuning houses can do with them, but the price here of one of those puts you in not very old M5 territory. And THAT would be no contest.

It's been mentioned here, and on another thread, that it's ridiculous to carry on about poor ANCAP scores, when we drive around in old Land Rovers. At best, that is a spurious argument. My 2000 Disco was never going to score a 5. What car of that era was? Did the S Class Benz? I dunno, it isn't relevant. The 2017 Disco scored a 5. The 2017 'Stang should have as well. The Falcon they could have based it on does. Not good enough, Ford.

Regardless of the ancap rating I wouldn't knock one of these Mustangs back, Would be great Fun to drive

Well that's it,..."Fun",....that's what it would be for me,...absolutely,......just as our 90 Gracie is,..fun,.....one has 90KW, and one has 306 KW,.....but they're both "fun" to me......couldn't drive either as an "ëverydayer"
