A bit hard to be certain with low res shot but I'd put my money on Common Bronzewing. They're found all over Australia and colouring varies greatly with the males having a 'tan' spot on their head. Their most striking feature is bright nearly metallic colouring of the wing feathers though at times it can be quite indistinct. It may be a breeding plumage thing. They can also 'fluff themselves up' when roosting which makes them seem a lot plumper but is probably more to do with retaining body warmth.
Here's a couple having a feed on our deck.

    Yes ,Brown Pigeons.

Dull brown with long tail, whereas the Bronzwing has colourful wings and white on its head. Also shorter tail, and a more stocky bird,as in Deanoh's pic.

Yep, you beat me to it Paul, SWMBO just pointed out that the tail was too long for a Bronzewing though I'm not familiar with the Brown pidgeon. My books tell me it's a rainforest fringe dwelling bird.

Here's another bird I wasn't familiar with until quite recently

It took me a while to identify it as I hadn't seen/noticed one previously. It's an Australian Pipit. Turns out they're common as muck and found all over the place. This one was at Cape Keraudren WA.
