There are fewer red and blue photosites on a Bayer pattern filter over the camera's sensor than there are green sites. That's part of the explanation. Another part of the equation is the whitebalance temperature.

I also noticed that using Adobe RGB doesnt saturate the reds as much as sRGB colour gamut. I also have all other in camera options off, for example I dont have the saturation level set to vivid.

That's because Adobe RGB is better suited to print than screen as it is a much larger colour gamut than sRGB.

Correct and hence why I use Adobe RGB and then convert to sRGB for web during PP.

We can swap my D200 for your D700 any time when you are ready
Nice shot; I had to give up trying with the D200. I just couldn't make it do what I wanted. The D700 is great - except for its weight. By the time you put a good lens on it you are carrying 2 - 3 Kg (4 - 6lb in English). No wonder I have a sore neck!

Yes hard to believe that it was taken through 1 inch wire isn't it. and it was on a really dull day too under tree cover I was quite pleased with the way it came out I have another one too of this bird and another with really cool orange eyes.

of course there has been some post process i just moved the black slider all the way across thats it...it was enough to eliminate the ever so slight shadowing of the wire.
