I saw that today too. can't wait until they bring it out for the proper phones.
contour has had that ability for a while now, on the standard unit with no added attachments - bastards!

the hero 3 got released yesterday.

it was only last year that the hero 2 came out!

It does look like a big step forward though

I'm wanting to get a carry around camera, normally use iPhone. The kids (and me) are keen on a waterproof compact. How suitable would the new go pro 3 be as a versatile carry around.

It would be ok as a carry around camera. Its a bit hard to use hand-held I'd probably get a little hand grip \ tripod so you can hold it up vertically and still keep it stable

I've got the hero2 and I think the controls are a bit clumsy - not as easy as a normal video camera. Great for shooting and editing when you get home. Biggest asset is variety of adaptors for the mounts, etc.
The Gopro videos on their site always look amazing which is something I've get to be able to achieve in real life. Notice how they're always in bright light? Very, very grainy in low light situations (eg indoors at night)

I have a hero2 and the wifi gear and it is simply a pain... I have the latest firmware for all parts but the camera constantly locks up. I now have andriod app and the lock ups are gone. However the whole wifi system flacky at best. The camera constantly looses settings. CONTOUR vs Hero... wish i hadnt sold my contours even if the hero has better video.

If someone needs a sturdy mount, I found this Black VectorMount.
