Yep that's exactly what it does. lol. Always amusing when people make the comment.. "But my engel ran for.." Best thing you can fit if you have or buy an engel is a low voltage cutout to protect your battery. If it is drawing it that low you need to look at alternatives such as more capacity solar/gen set etc.

We have had a few engles pass through with the same issue, around the same vinatge. Perhaps a batch that weren't quite right, who knows.

As said before 90%+ of the times we get a "My *** fridge doesn't work" (pick whatever brand you like) it comes back to the wiring, often despite several discussions along the lines of... an auto electrician fitted mine, nah can't be it's all new/good/properly done etc etc. Not uncommon to then find there is a 1-2 volt drop on the circuit, especially under load.

Hooked mine up today using 3 different 12v supplies inc a 240 to 12v using 3 different cables and same thing compressor tries to kick in and then nothing. So is not a battery problem. Has to be a power supply issue, so probably going to be up for a new power supply around $350-$400 plus fitting. Spewing as just spent $600 on a new compressor. But I suppose beats $1700-$1800 for a new one. Will pull it apart again and check for faulty connections.
Does anyone know of any way to test the power supply??

How long do these things last for? Both mine and my old mans are 95 models, his is still fault free, and the only problems I have ever had with mine was a broken latch $6.50 a lack of beer inside it.

Before you spend the hard earned $$$ it may pay to check for dry solder joints or a poor crimp caused by mechanical stress... given that you appear to be getting an acceptable nominal voltage- but it's going down under load, then the electrical joints feeding the power supply may need attention...or the connectors from the power supply to the "swing" motor...maybe they need to be cleaned up?

Am sure if you can find your way around the engine bay of yr LR you can explore your Engel!!

would measuring the resistance across the 12V terminals tell if the problem was there? Does someone know what the readings should be?

try measuring the voltage across the terminals when attached to a battery and under load...

Just had the bad news, seem in this model when the 12v dies its a new power supply. Pretty annoyed after just spending $600 on a new compressor, should have just bought a new one with the 2 year warranty. No one can believe I have had both go in such a short period.

But on the upside I can replace it with the newer 12v/24v/240v power supply.

the older ones will eat your battery.
Ive got one that will still refrigerate at down to 7v.

Engles last forever. the one dad took on the cape trip is older than I am.
