Is there an overload/reset button on that model?

I had what sounds like a similar problem while over in the Pilbara area years ago - fridge finally came good after leaving disconneted from power for about an hour. I don't know, but maybe there's a thermal cutout in there somewhere. Although strange that it still works on the 240v

Just a thought and maybe worth a try.

have you run it on a generator before?

this can cause this problem or a similar one.

also is the green light on the engel or on the cord (at plug) ?

Unit has never been run on a generator and the light is on the fridge near the on/off knob.

Just had this problem with my Engel. Bit of a bugger to find out what is wrong and had me stumped for ages. Turns out it is possibly a loose connection on the twelve volt side of things where either the fuse is connected or the actual cable plugs in. Mine was a bad crimp and would run fine on 240v, but would have intermitent issues with the 12v side of things. Took it to the engel service center and had it fixed in less then an hour.

Mine seems to be doing the same, just had a new compressor fitted to.
The plug looks a little worse for wear so have bought a new one and will see how that goes first.
I am lead to believe that running the battery dead flat can cause the plug to melt and arc out.

thanks for the replies. Ill get a new battery and get the lead/plug tested and replaced if needed. If that doesnt work I suppose I'll drop it off to get it checked over by the local servicer.
