    Hi,

Actually the lense in the gauges allows you to view from any angle. I can view with a quick glance all the gauges. If they were in the middle then the passenger would still be able to view it anyways. I found it would be too tight a squeeze to fit in the middle because of the depth of the gauges and trying to go below the middle shelf thingy. And it would look too cluttered.

I have, fuel pressure, oil temp, oil pressure and voltage, + the tm2 Watchdog monitoring block temp, all electronic

    Cheers

The oil temp Gauge ? Engine oil I guess
Just what do you think the range of acceptable temps should be ? for what driving conditions ?

    Hi,

yeah, engine oil temp. Normal driving around summer I see it just over 180 deg f. Long hot day idle I've seen it hit 190 deg f. Tm2 block temp said 85 deg c when this happened. Tm2 block temp around town summer around 81 - 83 deg c. Driving at 100km/h I see it 79-81 deg c. I'm not sure how normal these figures are but I think the fenix alloy radiator and snug fit shroud seems to be doing a nice job.

If your gauge is reading water temp near the thermostat , then you have the wrong thermostat and will constantly have 5?% enrichment as the 14CUX retains enrichment until 82C.
You need an 88C thermostat .
I was hoping that maybe I could fit an 82C but even on a 19C morning now mine drops under 88C, so would go into enrichment if I fitted an 82C.

Well I suggest you move it as circulation is from bottom to top and the maximum heat is above the combustion chambers.

You may have a false sense of security but I do not think you will know until you know the temp near the thermostat .

Sounds fair, although I think the oil temp being about the same as the block temp confirms the overall temp of the motor. Alloy transmits heat very well. The built in water temp in the dash shows temp a few mm below half so I'm happy with that.

You could get an infrared remote temp sensor and point it near the thermostat and see what it says, and if 82C then you should change the thermostat for an 88C.
If it reads 88C plus then you should move the sensor.

Could it be possible that a slightly rich mix might be better for the 3.9 as I've heard that the standard 14cux produces a mix that is too lean and that may be a cause of blocks cracking/ loose liners etc. Not sure on the truth of this though. I have the unichip so it's already mapped out. I'm not getting an ounce of any smoke under revs when hot. Not really a good test but if it was rich I should see some black smoke. mmmmm interesting.
