    Ideal?

    Personal choice, really.
I'm now on my (4th and) 5th RR ( blush, L322 TD6- veeerrrry nice, albeit a few faults to fix/register).
    from 1976 2 door with 4.4l V8- just OK.
to 1984 4 door, I cinverted to Mits 3.3L intercooled turbo diesel and R380 manual- bad choice/should have gone auto, for empty driving, but reasonable tow car.

to 1993- converted to 300TDi and kept all else- ZF auto, air suspension, etc tweaked it a bit- easy conversion- not bad!

still have, 1994 soft dash LSE, I converted to chipped TD5/auto, lots extras. STILL a nice car to drive with plenty power; more than a std 3.9/4.2 V8. and economical! I've used it for lots heavy towing; most around 3 tonnes and still performs; admittedly upgraded the auto, not really because I had to, but wanted to try---- worked a wonder.
This car still a daily workhorse until January/some renos going on, then it will have to go as by then I'll also have fixed the few quirks/registered of the L322 and it'll become the workhorse.
Air suspension? the 94- still has, but "manual"control; can adjust each wheel independently and hasn't failed now in 7 years of use; comes in very handy sometimes!
I also run a part time RR and Disco repair service, mostly diagnostics work and power upgrades for the TD5's around Toowoomba.

So my 3 cents worth? my choice of Classics--- soft dash LSE without a doubt. worth hunting for.

A Classic with any engine other than a Rover v8... My (grumpy) impression that bad design should never be rewarded !

300tdi or Td5. Or any other diesel that fits the space and gearbox.

Tonight an old Hi-Ace schoolbus with a 3.0 diesel consistantly left me struggling (up to 60km/h) - Nothing to do with the mad Kiwi woman driving it...

1995 Softdash Vogue SE with working EAS.

rover V8's aren't THAT bad, as long as your middle names are Caltex Shell and you don't drive far!

best thing about the classic is there is one to suit everybody, and the only problem I ever had with mine (3.9 auto) was the range, just used sooo much petrol, especially when towing, so if you are good with the spanners, think about puting a diesel in, will pay for itself pretty quick if you do many kms.

other than that, just about the best car ever made!

my choice, 1990 - 1993 without all the electrical gubbins

Re electrics/electronics- the '94-95 soft dash model does seem a bit more complicated, but really has all the same basic systems as the 90-93's, but I found MORE reliable/sorted out.
To me, it was definitely an improvement over the earlier ( I had a 1993 ).
I went a bit crazy with mine when I fitted the TD5/electronic auto-- had to add 3 more computers and integrate them to the "std" loom. LOTS of soldered joints- none of those systems have given an ounce of trouble last 7 years.

    G'day
Me again, may seem like a silly question, but how's the easiest way to find out what transfer l have on my 5speed? The rangie l have is an 84 which was converted from a 3 speed auto, has the short gear stick set further back from the dash.
Also can l fit the LT230 transfer to this gearbox iof it has the BW?

    Thanks
