realistically the cost of converting a classic to any diesel would be not viable, I have done it and it always ends up costing you more than the car is worth. Its the little things like getting aircond pipes made up and power steering hoses that blow the budjet. When you look at a D1 now days they are so cheap even a real good one is not going to cost much and they are a better car than a classic rangie. IE 5 speed 380 box, instead of the 4 speed, 4 bolt steering box instead of the 3 bolt, dash that doesn't fall apart, Better seats, back door that doesn't let in bucket loads of dust, If you like the 2 door rangie as a classic then your better off keeping it original anyway. Just my opinion for what its worth.

    converting a classic

    Hi there

I converted my classic to a 200tdi for only 1200 dollars a friend and i went halves in a rolled disco that had a fair few goodies on it. eg. lockers heavy duty gear, he got all the good bits and i got the driveline then all we did was a complete body swap between the two vehicles had the job done in a weekend.

Thank you all for your help. If the Isuzu has more bang for its buck then I'll head there. I have driven a tdi 300 once and did think it was a bit under powered?

    Anyway thanks again

Perhaps you should start a thread specifically about putting in the Isuzu as a few people have done it, and if you have the LT95 then at least you don't have to worry about a gearbox as well. However, as pointed out here, it's the little things that cause the headaches - choke, accelerator linkage, fuel lines, mounting ancillaries, making exhaust parts, and so on. Personally, I figure life's too short to be that worried about what the car is costing me so I've been rebuilding my Rangie until it's what I want.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

    Now there a thought.

I am looking at getting a 200tdi for my RRC and I was going to buy an old disco to take the engine out of. I have done it before I did it in 1991 to a 1971 RRC

But you have given me ideas

What's the go with putting a rodeo engine in?
    What gearbox is used?
    Are all factory parts used?

I bought a disco 200tdi, bought it for $1900 off ebay but was in Sydney. So flew down to Sydney and drove it back to Brisbane.

But it had twin batteries , twin fuel tanks, full tinted windows, snorkel , winch bar. And many other toys. Drives like a dream so ended up selling the RRC and keeping the disco.

So did not quite work to plan, but got my diesel manuel off roader now.

Ivan, how does it go? I was going to do this a few years ago as I could mate it to the zf auto, would be a good little conversion I think, particularly with a Turbo.
