Here in Tas, even though teh RR classic comes out in UK with one (Tdi engine) I had to get engineering done for modified engine mounts etc.
Easy conversion though and a great result

Thanks don, guess she will just have to wait then! I believe the rules are it had to be available as an option in Australia to not require an engineers report![]()

I went for a Tdi300 with Auto, into a '88 Classic. The greatest improvement to the 300Tdi was adding gas. Torque improved, slow take off almost gone. 19l gas + 60l Diesel get me about 600ks, then just run diesel only, and notice it too. Only extra thing done was to raise body 2", makes getting at rocker cover etc much easier.

From what I've read in this thread, a reasonably simple option would be to find a Tdi D1 and swap the body over?
Saves issues of engine mounts, etc but I'm assuming then you're looking at things like aircon and power-steering pipes, etc.

In most states you can't put an older body on a newer chassis, if the chassis vin is going to be the registered entity.
The 'Clough' approach could work................ however it would probably be easier doing the mounts and getting it engineered if engine swap is what you're after.
cheers, DL
