Recently completed a 1600km drive from Newcastle to Adelaide
Averaged 105km/hr and occasionally sneaking up to 110-115km/hr for some of the big straights
with a fully loaded back (could not fit another bag) and 33" tyres i managed to get 11.5L/100km
other than now being deaf was a good comfortable drive

Moved two front stretcher clamps outboard (holes already there) to make a bed. Pretty simple, just some aluminium tube and a canvas stretcher with a couple of cutouts so I can tension the whole affair.

    I changed my Trans OIL

I guess this means I'm going to be out a lot of money.

Oil actually looked near new, I almost didn't change it.
The box itself doesn't grind or make any strange noises. Sometimes takes a couple of goes to get into first and reverse, but that is all.

    Drat.

the manget plug kept coming outwith more stuff on it every time i poked it back in, and the filter had some fair size pieces in it.

sigh, how much is a new gearbox?

now doing the PTO/transfer case, we'll see what that looks like.

find a nice disintegrated boot on the front prop shaft too.

I wouldn't panic yet. Do you have a service history? You might want to check it again in while, few thousand k's. The magnet is just doing it's job.

Last service was 6/12/2013 and it just says topped up fluids, not changed, so god knows how old it is. as i said, it looked new. vehicle has only done 2400km since then.

Completed the transfer box and PTO oil change.

(note to self for next time; Make sure your funnel is not forming a seal when filling the tansfer box or you might accidently put an extra litre in which will pour out all over you when you take funnel out!)

Now off to do the diffs.
