What year is on the block? It may be hard to see. There is a 2 digit year cast on the RHS (near the Injector Pump).

I believe LR may have bought the engines in large batches, so the engine year could be a few years earlier than the vehicle.

Dougal - I think you need to look at the later batch made in the 90's to get the later type engine.

My 4BD1T only has 4BD1 cast on the side. But the drain location gives it away.

Some of the later engines were basically 4BD1T's without the turbo. Visually they have a different rocker cover and breather setup as the main clues. Also a blanking plate where the turbo drain would be and the intake manifold is slightly different.

Yeah that's me too.
I'll see what I can dig up for part numbers. The alternative 4BD1T manifold is well known but requires a t3 to t2 adapter.

Can you tell if this is a later type motor? According to the numbers it is a 1994 block. Inlet side photo didn't come out but can grab another if required.
