Would they still have 4BD1 on the casting or are they a different casting with 4BD1T?

What year is on the block? It may be hard to see. There is a 2 digit year cast on the RHS (near the Injector Pump).

I believe LR may have bought the engines in large batches, so the engine year could be a few years earlier than the vehicle.

Dougal - I think you need to look at the later batch made in the 90's to get the later type engine.

My 4BD1T only has 4BD1 cast on the side. But the drain location gives it away.

Surely some of them get lucky with a later engine swap?

    TD04HL-19T.
Factory turbo T2 high-mount manifold from an industrial 4BG1T.
    The rest is just plumbing.

Got a number for the manifold?

    EDIT: I see a Dougal...

    Yeah that's me too.
I'll see what I can dig up for part numbers. The alternative 4BD1T manifold is well known but requires a t3 to t2 adapter.

    Dougal, all,
Can you tell if this is a later type motor? According to the numbers it is a 1994 block. Inlet side photo didn't come out but can grab another if required.

    Doesn't look like it.
