Dunno Andrew - I have Metro View - cost 12 bucks...does everything. As for your "real reason".....Jail break an iphone and do what you want.![]()
Phone wars are fun. I love my 2 year old Android phone but agree iPhone is better for some.
The real reason not to chose Apple is once you're on that ship Apple can make choices you're not happy with, like removing maps or changing connectors or forcing the use of software such as iTunes. If you're happy with this then fine but many aren't so they chose Android. At least with Android my USB connectors are standard and I can continue using turn by turn navigation like I have for the past 2 years, something Apple will take a while to fix.
Android really is better in a number of ways. Navigation being the biggest deal breaker. Android navigation simply is the best out there and makes your phone extremely useful.

It was only a drama because she is not a technically savvy person and one of the main functions for her ipad is watching crap American TV shows over youTube that otherwise mysteriously keep getting turned off when they are on the TV. It was a simple safari link on the home screen to the mobile youTube site and all is fine. She has no interest in following any media surrounding iOS6 and how to make it do things it used to straight out the box. As far as she is concerned its just supposed to work.
I love it when this is the answer from the apple side of the fence, take the stock product and void its warranty and support, so that it will do something simple you want it to do.
I know there's rootkits for androids too so its a double edged sword.
Apple is not my thing, I dont like it for personal use, but for work, I love it!
Users all want Iphones, mainly for the "look at me" bling factor. I love it when they ask for stuff, and we give them corporate Itunes which only upsets them more, then they ask fr various mobility things, and the response is sorry, corporate environment, no jailbreaking permitted, no you can't have full itunes due to security issues, and no you can't do this that and the other, makes them very easy for me to support
Mind you it upsets me we always get a percentage of users smashing them when there is a new model out, allthough they are smartening up now realising I just replace the screens at $70 a pop rather than a new $600 phone and they drop them in the toilet so they are really stuffed and thus get the current model.
I must admit the 20% or so of users who choose windows/android phones seem to keep them untill they break, which seems to be about three to four years at the moment.
Yesterday I had a user look at me and say "I cant have that, thats old" to an Iphone 3GS which was a handmedown from their director who upgraded to a 5, my response was "well work doesn't give me a smart phone or any phone at all, infact its in my job description to supply my own so a work paid for one to use how what and where I like would be great so I think your doing well".
in my view, apple use to be the leader and eeveryone else played catch up, I feel its now the otherway around. I dn't really ccare tha much about it though.
Ohh and I still use my Beta decks allotHf950's

It's merely an option my friend. If you need to claim warranty, restore it - simple. Or if it worries you that even this might not be possible, maybe look at doing so after 12 months. Just providing possibilities for those who wish to use their mobile phones to guide cruise missiles and the like.
Mine does everything I want. Simple or otherwise. I'm not interested in this option....but the tied to App Store argument, that this comment were in response to, is quite tedious. Nevertheless - when people claim zero ability to do anything else other than what the Apple environment offers, it is perfectly valid to demonstrate available options.
What I don't want is antivirus software or dodgy NFC technology, all operating in a clunky freeze prone environment - and yes, my wife has a work HTC on JB and I agree with Inc (see his post in Computers) regarding the user experience. We all have a choice. I might also add that I find it interesting how many Android supporters come into any internet discussion, regarding iPhones/iPads/iMacs etc - only to espouse the virtues regarding "their" stuff. I scan articles on all sorts of tech - other phones, tablets etc. There is not the same reciprocal attention given to these items. That is quite telling I suspect.
And in reply to your opening line; well, I love it when commentators give us words of wisdom such as, "users all want iPhones mainly for the look at me bling"....speaks for itself. Fail.

Really no navigation comes close to Google's. Street view being the main reason. This is great as you're pulling up to your address the street view image appears on your phone. Look at your phone, look out the window. Yup I'm here. Excellent if you have to get around the city a lot for work like me.
Chrome to phone. I can be viewing Google Maps on my computer, hit an icon and it brings up the map on my phone. How many times have you been looking at an address moments before you walk out to jump in your car to get there? This is really handy and saves time.
If one of my contacts has an address I just hit the navigate icon next to it and it takes me there. Let me guess in Apple world you have to go to your nav app and type the address? I'm sure Apple's locked it down though so this works but only with their broken map app.
In the end competition is good, for me I love maps and it's one feature that saves me time day to day. Apple will get there but then there'll be something else that either Apple or Google are better at.
Oh, that old chestnut again. The last bastion used by the mentally unimaginative when defending the choice to use iphone or android. Oh, hang on, maybe its that iphone users are all sheep.
Or just perhaps...... they prefer the iphone to androids. Bah, android users are mere dung beetles.![]()

That's it - guess away. Hey - I'm not going to change phone platforms over navigation. That may be of prime importance to you, and that's valid - but no deal breaker for me. I just ask Siri, so wrong - no typing - and so far, my Apple maps has taken me exactly where I need to go - wow - amazing!
In the meantime, I have the world's fastest smartphone that does everything very well and very smoothly - it's a pleasure to use. I'm happy - you're happy.
Perhaps people with iPhone 5's might like to pass comment because we've heard plenty from me and the fandroids.
PS - Street view - so important - so available on iPhone too.....but don't let facts get in the way of your assumptions.

You guys are pushing this apple stuff pretty hard, I put comments both ways, irrespective of the % for good or bad you have only mentioned and focussed on the bad.
I posted I didnt like apple for personal use, but I didn't say what I did like, in fact my old nokia brick works just fine![]()
They are just phones, geez sounds like the whole toyota vs landies bashing people at work try and drag me into.
Have your apples, have your androids, have your windows phones, it all generates competition which only means in the end I get to pick something I like at a good price![]()

It's about the navigation sure street view works through your browser I was talking about the navigation app. It's handy when you're within a few meters of your destination and your phone handily displays the picture. Street view would work on any device with a browser I'm guessing, just not through navigation.
So on an Apple you can Safari to iPhone driving directions have it navigate you to your destination and then show street view upon your arrival? Apple will get there eventually. What about walking or bike directions? That has saved me a few times. I love navigation on my phone, the fact is Android is just better here... for now.
Above all I have this on a 2 year old device and it runs OK. Sure it's not iPhone or SGS 3 quick but the features are there for me now. I go buy an iPhone 5 and I'd steeping back in functionality from my 2 year old HTC. That just doesn't make sense.
