    Recommended Dash Cams?

following on from the road rage thread...

I'm looking to get some user recommendations for a dash cam for my County.

For the front, something like this looks good, but maybe there is better out there? H.264 720P Wide Angle 6-LED Night Viewing Digital Car DVR Camcorder w/ Mini USB/SD/HDMI (2.5" LCD) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

Also, are there models that allow for use as both a reversing camera AND record footage like a "standard" dash cam so I would have both front and rear footage available? or would this require additional hardware?

I plan to get one of the Visiondrive models in the new year. The website is a whole lot of awful, but the equipment seems pretty good and is being used by truck drivers apparently.

New laws have been introduced making it illegal to have anything on the dash, IF in the opinion of a police officer that may have pulled you over that it obstructs your view or interferes with your driving. So fit at your own peril, Regards Frank.

I've seen Blackvue mentioned a couple of times on here and they seem very good. I'm planning on getting one or two for exactly the situation the thread is about.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

have done a bit of research and the newer papago P3 has GPS, full HD video recording and turn by turn navigation in the one unit - not bad really....

it doesn't help with respect to the rear view though, but I did find one Korean brand that is two channel, front and rear cams with GPS and time stamping on the video, plus motion sensors that auto start recording during the time you are parked.

Lastly, I find it hard to believe any copper is going to defect you for having a device that you can legally use to defend yourself in court? especially if the only part of your windscreen it is blocking is behind your rear view mirror? Any serving members willing to comment on this?

Pretty useless resolution going by their specs..

    640x480 VGA.... Thats it...

And often only 15fps. so wont even serve purpose for recording 4wd trips....

    I'd look at other options!
