lol...
I'm sure I'll have issues with Telstra, but their recent advertising campaign has been pretty bloody accurate ('Is your 3G network letting you down?').
My 1 yr contract with optus expires soon guess what ill be doing about 2 minutes after it does!

Am looking to replace my current phone with an iphone. As there are people on here who have experience of real life use of it was wondering if you would comment on the phone memory.
There are some good deals around at the moment on the 8gb version. This is due to the 16gb version now beiong released. Is the extra memory necessary? Is it just used for music or do any apps you down load go in here too? There seem to be plenty of apps to down load. Do they take up much memory? How hard is it going to be to fill the 8gb memory as it seems it will not tale a memory stick.
The sales person in the store was too busy attempting to up sell me to a tarrif I do not need to answer questions in a way which gave me confidence.
Unless you listen to lots of music on long flights or carry lots of files etc I would suggest the 8gb is sufficient. I have the 8gb and although the majority of the memory is taken up with music, I have plenty left. To give you an idea;
I have 20 apps - 81mb
1090 images - 703mb
video - 82mb
Audio - 2.7gb
Other (Firmware I presume) - 280mb
So have 3.2gb left
Having said that, I have few apps, listen to music for about 20 mins at a time, do not carry documents on it yet etc etc, so as I said, unless you intend to max it out with music, video etc etc the 8gb is fine I reckon.
Aye, Mick
It basically depends on what you want to use it for - I have;
- 1376 songs; 7.7GB
- Some small videos; 1.49GB
- 2075 photos; 1.13GB
- 4/5 pages of good apps; 0.44GB
- 'Other' (Operating System); 0.3GB
- Free; 3.6GB
I obviously have the 16GB...
If you can get a good deal on the 8GB, and you are wondering whether you will need the 8 or the 16, I'd say go for the 8.
To be honest, I could easily cut half my stuff - remove most photos, video and keep only top rated music, etc.
But I'm lazy
I think you would have to try very, very, very hard to get more than 1GB of apps (i.e. you would need to be a serial iPhone user).
An important thing to remember is that if you put a full length (2 hour) feature film on your iPhone, it will take up around 1.5GB (same for a couple of episodes of TV shows)...
Anyone figured out how to set up profiles yet or found an app that will do it. Drives me mad that I have to keep manually adjusting settings each time I want to change phone set up. Also, why is it with contacts in with only one number attached to them that I have to click on their name to make a call and then click on the only number listed to activate the callYou would have thought that the phone could work out that I can only call one number..........as my old Nokia did.
Excellent phone but some glaring omissions IMO.
Aye, Mick
will be a 32gb one out before the end of the year, with newer hardware...
Thats Apple for you... they do some things brilliantly (usually UI) at the expense of some other areas.
I jsut installed the beta of iPhone OS 3.0... haven't got to far yet but searching is build into the home screen now. You now have a page to the left of the main page where you can search apparently the entire phone. I've not loaded any emails on so I can search much atm.
Oh yeah bluetooth A2DP is enabled but I left my bluetooth headphones at work - doh!

This can be annoying, however I think it's because (like with some other smartphones) Apple expects you to alternate between calling, texting and emailing the people in your contacts list...
One way around it is to use the 'favourites' list - when you press the green phone emblem, it's the area on the far left. When you have added a certain number here, pressing the name will automatically call. I think you can have around 20 people in this list...
Not a complete solution (I agree that more things like this need to be changeable), but I hope this helps!
