    Radios and their users.

It looks like we have a fair number of amateur radio ops on here.
Do we have a chance of a separate thread?

The knowledge coming out of the dash woodwork would lead one to think that this is the case.

    QRZ?

I guess you mean a separate section - not sure we haven't got too many already.

I suppose electronics heading is close enough.

Yes a few are here ................maybe we need another poll.

I don't have a lic (yet), but I'm really keen on the Icom IC-208H (export model)

Remote head, mil spec (all except water )
5 watt, 15 watt, 55 watt, selectable TX power.
Remove 2 resistors, reset the unit, and it totally opens up the works.

    118.0000 - 173.9875
    230.0000 - 549.9875
    810.0000 - 999.9875

I'd really like it in the 88", but keeping it dry might be an issue.

I have an 'opened up' 208H which works well as a UHF CB/amatuer radio/police scanner. Its a great radio, with 500 channels and remote head. My only complaint is that its prone to intermod in urban areas. Even with the resistors removed, it wont TX on all the above freqs but UHF CB is no problem.

The old Philips PRM80's are pretty hard to beat - they look the part in a Series Rover and are getting cheap now.
