We still have to use IE at work, where no other browser is permitted (and I'm in IT too), I use Chrome on the iPad at home, as well as the machines running Win7, but Firefox on the machines running XP or Vista. (A total of 8 PCs and laptops along with 2 iPads for 4 people!)
This gave the best result when I was messing about and testing 8 months or so ago, but new versions may have changed and could give different results.
Haha, yeah, been there. They just love their "stuff!!" I can understand your current setup, though I would consider another test of Chrome on the XP\Vista(ouch) machines when you have some spare fiddling time! Seems to have had some nice improvements lately in regards to performance.
But in saying that, I also run IE and only IE for work, so I don't really have any XP machines (online at least) to test the theory.
As for IE not being able to do CSS3 (I'm assuming that's what you meant), it does pretty much everything a CSS3 offers now bare a few exceptions. These exceptions are related to things IE has never really had, according to most discussions with MS over the years, due to "security issues."
On that though, I don't know any browser in existence at the moment that implements everything under CSS3 in the way it was originally designed. On a lot of occasions I have found IE to be the most consistent with regards to formatting\styles. At least through versions. Whereas I have seen wild variations between versions of most of the other major browser. With the possible exception of, I hate to say this one, Safari.
Of course this is only my opinion, so please don't take offence if anyone is that way inclined. Also, sorry for hijacking this thread!!
