    Refilling Coolant in 3.9 V8???

I've been reading up on bleeding coolant systems on v8 series 1 disco's as I'm going to give my heater heater a flush and bleed in an attempt to make it operate as it used to (nice and hot).

Now the haynes manual I have says to refill the system from the expansion tank but numerous posts that I have found including the one linked below refer to a "bung" or "plug" on one of the heater hoses or around the drivers side somewhere. I, for the life of me, can not see where this "bung" or "plug" is or supposed to be. Is it only on early D1's or all of them (mines a 97 model).

    Post from the good oil:

Does anyone have a picture or an explanation that even a simpleton such as myself could understand??

If any pictures are posted up I would ask that a moderator insert it into the good oil thread to prevent an otherwise some what normal person sound like an idiot (they could be highlighted in a fashion similar to whats shown in this thread: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/computers/...on-chrome.html )

    Thanks in advance.

You don't have the filling plug in the heater circuit, it was deleted around 1994. Start by filling the radiator slowly until it stays full, then you fill your engine via the radiator plug by running the engine at a fast idle until the level stabilises. There is a coolant bleed hose from just behind the thermostat to the top of the radiator and you can see when it is flowing into the radiator. Then your engine is full. Refit the plug and continue to fill the expansion tank.

Cheers for that. So the posts mentioned only apply to the early disco's (I'm not such an ass ). I'll PM Pedro The Swift and see if he can update that particular post to only reference the early D1's.

    Thanks again

It helps to get the front up in the air (Eg:Car Ramps) and make sure you fill it very slowly so that the air bubbles work there way up. I had to take the heater core pipes off and run the hose though them to get the air out properly. Just take time and try to get the air out of all the pipes. Took me a few goes to get it right. Good luck.
    Cheers, David.

After it is full, check the coolant level every day for a week. When you are happy it is staying at the level it should be, then you should be ok.
