never seen that but then I've also gotten a TD5 deefer to go 1000K to the factory tank with a trailer on the back if you operated in exactly the same fashion, doing 80 KPH on a cool night behind a big crane on dead flat roads with skinny road tyres at high pressure 6l/100 might be on the cards...

i am one of those old school types that sit and calculates their milage and my TDi gets 9.8l/100km (29.5mpg) town work with or without the air cond and 8.6l/100km (32mpg) on the highway. first time towing with the camper (750kg) i thought i was getting 26mpg but i think it is better than that now.
once i worked out that on the highway cycle aith the amount of fuel i had left behind in the tank i could go 960km on the 89 litre tank![]()

oh mine is factory standard
FWIW, my Defender HCPU gets around 11.5l/100km unladen.

Hi 1disco,
I've just recently put a gas flowed head on mine and chopped the centre muffler out and I'm getting about 8.5 to 9 l/100 on a regular sort of basis. Haven't towed of given the vehicle a work out yet, that average is over two tanks of fuel. Oh and it is an auto.
Mine is a 98 auto with 265/75's and standard gearing. Normally around town I get about 12l/100k's. On a recent BIG trip towing a 1400kg camper and close to half a tonne of extra gear on the car we averaged just under 16l/100k's. I'm sure if I slipped some 4.11 ring and pinions in the diffs I'd do much better in terms of economy (oh and lose the 4 inch suspension lift and roofrack and.......)
Cheers
Goldey
Just arrived: 2012 D4 3.0 HSE, the journey begins again ;-).
Gone: 98 Disco 300tdi Auto, and some extras
Glad I read this b/c my 99/came out in 2000 though, was getting 6-7 per 100k it was freaking incredible , I use to think I was seeing things , until the air con belt wheel fell off .
I know I've asked around here about it and checked everything people have suggested but right now it's still only getting about 9/100k with the belt off , which feels pretty discusting after what it use to get . So whatever's going on I'm finding the parts to put that belt back on when I get time.
