Is 155k a standard time for the head gasket to go?

There is no normal time but 155k is low, mine would be still going on original head if it wasnt for top hose failure which i could have prevented.
If your hoses are pressurized from idle and coolant is being pushed out of the cap then good chances you've done the head - but check everything else first as previous people have mentioned.

Car wouldnt start this morning. Tried again after work and started first go. Let her idle for about 20 mins temp stayed at halfway the whole time.
Took her for a drive amd 20mins in the temp started to rise slowly. Took about 5mins to go from half to 3/4 before I turned her off.

Sounds like you need to get a cooling system expert involved. The 300Tdi is apparently regarded as a relatively cool running engine, but you can't risk overheating them, as I know from personal experience.

If she starts tomorrow morning I will take it to work and flush the radiator check thermostat. Thats about as far as my mechanical skills stretch with regards to engines.

To answer your earlier question "How can you check if the heads blown if there's no oil in the watre?"
Go to a decent Mechanic or Radiator specialist and they can do a test on Carbon Monoxide in the coolant system.
Guaranteed!
If your cracking heads kinda defeats the purpose of putting the gasket there doesnt it land rover?
