I don't mind giving things a go but I'm probably more likely to give the bigger/harder things to a LR mechanic.... I'm obviously new to LR's and it might take me a while to get use to or confident) in doing some of the repairs (Maintenance is no worries)
I've currently got my Toy Zook that I've worked on and built up. I've changed the timing belt on that w/o any problems; installed reduction gears in the Transfer Case, etc..... but as I said, the Discos would be NEW to me and I guess I'll have to slowly build up my confidence in tackling various things on them + obviously seeking helpful advice from this site too![]()
its a $4k Car near enough.
remember, landrovers been making mechanics out of drivers since 48....
nothing there is insurmountable in your list and Id suggets that you'll drop between $2k and $5k on that one depending on if you want to go for "part swap just whats needed" or "fix everything related thats required on the way" when you sort it. I'f you get lucky you'll do it for less than that in parts.
Theres plenty of guys around who will help you out when you need it for beer food and a donation of something appropraite to appease the handbrake.

That's more than enough to get started on the Disco then. Even if you did the small jobs yourself, it sounds like you'll be able pick up a good Disco without having to spend too much up front. By the way, I don't think the timing belt is too difficult on a Disco. I haven't changed any other vehicle to compare but sounds like you'd easily do it.
