Done a bit to the newly acquired 3 door Tdi. Changed engine and gearbox oils, fixing two leaks (drain plug washers). Cleaned out the fuel sediment trap. Changed and repositioned the winch solenoids and made some new cables. Rewired the VSR for the second battery.
Ran outta bits and time to do much else.....

Finally got it back from the shop (starter motor and park brake cable replaced)! Then changed the oil and tinkered with it for a bit.

As requested I have attached a few pics of the work done. Also as stated in my last post. Made the three winch cables and sorted the relay wiring. Just waiting now for the rope to turn up.

Put it up for sale (again). I think it's about time I move on and leave exploring Australia for another day.

Removed the (second) CAV type fuel filter that was in the originals spot, and moved the original back to its place. Fitted new fuel filter as the one on it looked like it had been there some time (would be hard to change where it was).
Replumbed the aftermarket boost controller/bleed valve. Boost to valve/actuator straight from inlet manifold, Boost compensator from turbo outlet, removing a plastic tee that had an orifice going to the compensator ????
Set boost to 1 bar, a quick drive down the dirt (its not registered as yet) and it seems a bit better in the low/mid range now, with boost coming on a bit earlier :)

Sold it. My dear Snafu is gone now. Destined to pull a dog grooming trailer in Perth. I'll certainly miss the plucky little time bomb. Hands down the best trail rig I've owned.

Adjusted the valves (one was out to .5mm???).
Made bits for another cross bar/spotty mounts to weld into the ARB front bar. Lights are fitted to the main channel atm and the retaining nuts are a PITA to get to with a winch fitted.
Tided up some wiring, worked out what i need to get to redo /add some more.

Got my winch rope through the week. So today I fitted the winch rope. This finally finishes the winch of. One minor annoyance was the nuts on the winch motor poles must have been still the original ones. Instead of a/f or metric they where the more unusual type that go by the thread size. So the nuts where between 13mm and 14 mm. So soon ditched them for standard ones. Checked the oil in the winch gear box and was pleasantly surprised that it was still full. Must have done some thing wright when I sealed it up. Drum free spool is a tad hard to activate, so will have see if it is a issue. Fitted a dash switch to isolate the winch solenoids. They are normally live and using power even when the winch is not in use. Fitted a merit plug so I can plug my air compressor in. Next will be some guard clearance for the bigger tyres.

As stated in my previous post. The free spool was a issue. I also needed to fit a lead in to the drum, So Wednesday I fired up the winch and run a couple of meters of rope out to try and loosen up the free spool. Fitted up a lead in to the drum. Went to wind the winch in a bit and nothing. Winch will not work at all. Winch had worked fine when I had put the rope on, but not now. Was getting late so wound the bit of rope still out around the bullbar. Today I sorted the free spooling. It was a alignment issue. This enable me to remove the rope if needed. I then checked the winch motor out. Getting power through both motor poles when I should only be getting power through one. SO the motor has a major issue. Removed the rope and then the winch. Next I separated the motor from the winch. At least with this winch the gear box casing that is the front part of the motor stays with the motor. So now it is of to a motor re winders.
