I've run OME coils (+40mm) and shocks for the last 3 years on the D1, and am currently considering putting them on the D2. Had them our first D1 years ago. Have been happy with them, both on and off road. I like firm suspension.

I had shocks and springs(40mm lift) fitted about 2 months ago. shocks feel good but front springs dont seem to be full 40mm lift. But I dont know if the springs that were in it when I bought it, were standard or not. Going back next week for a check over so will talk to ARB.

If you have a D1 or Defender ask for N174, N175 OME shocks instead of N115, N44 shocks they are not in the book but are an EXPORT only job, they are for Landys and are 40 and 60mm(respectivly) longer. They work extremly well and don't have any issues with a 2 inch lift. The more people ask for them the more likley ARB will make them available to us in OZ(i think it's crazey that they are made here and arn't sold here. I've had them in for about 15,000k's now and love them.

I'd say that the springs were incorrectly chosen for the weight if you have a bar you want OME751 minimum(40mm standard, 30mm with 50kg) but preferably OME767 springs on the front.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks Wortho, The springs they fitted are the OME751 and I do have a steel bar. Sits 30mm higher when fitted, according to their measurements. So that would seem about right. Will Have to look at the OME767 when I get around to fitting a winch I guess. Still haven't made it back to them to have it checked yet. Thanks again.

No worrys Zute, a better thing to do would be to get some Landrover spring seat isolators, they seat into the spring and are nearly 10mm put one on the top and one on the bottom to get your height, the springs you have are actually a longer spring than the heavier duty one so will flex up better.

I should have made it clearer(hate it when you read it later and go what the!!) the shocks are longer than the normal OME ones and are for a 3inch lift but work fine with a two inch(really good down travel).

On the rear you fit GQ shocks and usually weld an eye to the top of the shock so that it will fit.
GQ/GU rears are already eye to eye.

Wortho, is that using OME springs to produce the 3" lift? This is a common mod in the US but I never hear about it in Aus.

Yep, they don't have the diesels there but they have the diesel springs which being a heavier rate will hold the V8 up higher for the same free length. They also use the landrover spring isolator/spacer's to get the lift.
    D1 springs also lift a D2 higher.
