I take it that means this is your last post ever then JC?.....

oh and in answer, to the questions you asked earlier jezzol.

nope if you were going to damage anything it would have been done when it fired up on areostart.

once it had fired up even if you had the cam timing out enough to cause low compression but not enough to damage anything it should have kept running.

yep no getting away from it the timing cover has to come off again.

no, its quite easy to get the timing wrong by just rolling the belts.

Imagine if this thread makes it as part of the LRM edit, can you imagine the things the poms would say?

"I say old chap it appears that these two mechanics are encouraging someone to hack at their ride in the wee hours and now they've taken to slinging insults..."

"whats this about a time difference, I tell you, it would never happen in England"

OK OK .... I know Im a bit over time !1!......... 9.50 our time !!!.... And yes I think I upset the neighbours with the compressor !

Ahh but they should be happy Ive been up late cutting and grinding building my camper trailer and thats a bit noisier

Any way here is my pic !!... Would have been quciker if I could get the bloody fan off !!, (NOTE TO SELF NOT SO MUCH LOCKTIGHT !)

    Oh........... Found as follows:

Rotated the engine to TDC cam belt pully lines up with mark, IP locking pin slid in and the crank key was at 12 a clock ! And bugger me the slot in the fly wheel lines up aswell ??!?!

    Anyway here tis !

Please advise next set of instructions ! lol I'll be up early and ready to go at it again ! I will be up maybe 6.30 our time !, that will give you plenty of thinking time !

would I be correct in saying that if I remove the timing belt and rotate it either direction one revolution ? hmmmmmm but that 360 deg not 180deg ?!?!? I'll sleep on it and see what you have to say in the morning !

Ohhhhh And thanks again to you both

from that picture (the oblique angle makes it hard) It looks like the cam timing is one tooth out

when you let the tensioner take up where was the slack on the belt?

and I know what the stupid thing is that we've missed.

the timing is adjusted by turning the timing gear on the injector pump boss. That pully has to come off to rebuild the pump. When your mate did the rebuild where did he set the pully on the injector pump? you cant put the pully on in totally the wrong position (the bolts are off set so you cant get all 3 in if you do) but you can advance it or retard it so far that it wont start easily/at all. (pump advance and retard is set by the slotted bolt holes)

If you have the slack in the wrong position when you let the tensioner pull up it can also pull the timing out, Combine the worst of the belt adjusting and pulling the timing into advance/retard and the pump being set near maximum advance/retard and your not going to get a start.

    Hi Jezza
Not going to try and help with what JC and Dave are working with you on but I would remove the air intake hose off at the intake manifold for the first start just incase you have an engine overrun problem where for reason unkown the engine will not shut down and goes to extreme revs. With the air intake hose off you can shut the engine down by putting a thick piece of cardboard over the intake and choking it.
    cheers
    blaze
JC and Dave you should be outa bed by now
