I may be miles off, but my old WRX showed this type of fault following an Ecotec tune and dyno set up - I went through 3 air flow meters at big bucks! I was told by a very experienced engineer, that it had run lean on the dyno, burned a piston ring land, and the knock sensor was retarding the timing. It was cured by a new engine, Autronic computer and finally the sale of the vehicle to buy another Land Rover!
